A very sad day.:(

Hello everyone, I traded my Jeep for a more fuel efficent vehicle.
I have had the Jeep for 2.5 years, and I was living in an apartment and working in Worcester MA. when I bought it, the commute to work was less than 5 miles one way.
Now I am living here in Oxford and the proud homeowner, I have had to make a difficult sacrifice.
The 14 miles to a gallon with several trips back and forth to work and the weekend errands was costing me over $200 a month in fuel.
With my mortgage and household expenses, the $300 dollar a month Jeep payment. I just cannot afford to keep putting gas in my Jeep.
I am really struggling with remorse and depression over this and tried to get the Jeep back, but realized it is a material possession, and what's done is done and there is always another Jeep to be had.
I am planning to eventually get another Jeep even if it's an older model that needs some work, but it will take a little time. I just needed to get into something cheaper to run and make my car payment less as well.
Anyway, I feel you guys are my friends here and I enjoy this forum and hope until I am back in the saddle again, that I am still welcome here.
Thanks guys.

Hey you gotta do what you gotta do, and of course you are always welcome here. I can't say that I haven't had thoughts like that myself some days.

Don't sweat it, and don't you dare leave us! I like your idea of buying an older Jeep eventually. Find one for cheap and fix it up with the goal to make it a dedicated trail rig maybe. You could turn it into a monster that you wouldn't use as a DD anyway. Might take a while, but so what - it would be a blast!

And you could keep us up to date with a build thread!

Paint it OD Green please.

Thanks Guys, one thing that will not change, is I will always be a supporting member of the great community! After all, the Jeep bug is in my blood to stay, and Gus I like your idea.
I have never been very good with wrenching, but now is my chance to learn. Like I said it will take some time to put some cash together, but I WILL have another Jeep.

Wow, I know that had to hurt. Hopefully things will get better and you will be able to build the Jeep you always wanted. Sometimes we have to make tough decisions and I think that you made the right one. Hang in there, this forum wouldn't be the same without you.

Of course you must stay! We'd have to send someone to hunt you down and make you visit us if you didn't... RBNMexico hasn't had a Jeep since I got here, he's still around..

Sorry to hear the news, man. Just remember.......every opportunity has an obstacle, but every obstacle also has an opportunity. Who knows, maybe your next Jeep will be EXACTLY what you want it to be with no sacrifices. Hang in there, your next Jeep will be just around the corner..........

You'll find another Jeep when the time is right. It was 14 years for mee between the time I traded off my CJ-7 and traded for my current TJ. But it was worth the wait.

What a resposible adult you are. We would be a lesser board if you were to leave. You will reach a point in your life when a jeep will again be an option.

Don't tell this to that guy on the thread about (why do people buy rubicons to haul their kids around in?) or whatever... I said I felt "sad" about a Jeep and he gave me a two page paper on why not to feel "sad" for inanimate objects like Jeeps.

you're a Jeeper with or without one. times are tough, that means fun stuff has to go. you'll get another one before long. time goes quick. don't let it get you down.

just please don't get a Prius or something dumb like that

I gave up my first Jeep (1981 CJ-5 Renegade, all original) for the same reason for a Volvo 240 back in the day. You'll be back bud. Hang in there.

a focus works just don't try to take it offroad. maybe drive it through the grass after it rains for a fix

shame you don't live near me. i'd take ya out wheelin' whenever you like.

seriously, it won't be so bad. my cousin's husband has been Jeepless 2 years now. he talks about it just like he still drives it. he got a quad to help him cope. seems to be working.

Try to think about the fact that you have a driveway, not a parking space, your own driveway. That is a major accomplishment! You have a home of your own now. So just look out the window and think That is where I'm gonna park my next Jeep, In MY driveway.

JD, your first post to this thread, you said this forum would not be the same without me. That was sweet and kind and I feel the same about you. You always have sound sensible advice whenever you post, and that has helped a lot of us members very much.
Having a house was a major accomplishment for me, and for the time being I had to make a sacrifice, even if it was a difficult one. Unfortunately, the reality is this car will cost me between gas and my payment and insurance 1/2 as to what the Jeep was costing me.
Would I rather own a Jeep? ABSOLUTELY!! Will I buy another Jeep another ABSOLUTELY!! It will take time but I will get there again. Thanks again for the kind words JD.

I drove this car for about 30 minutes, and was really surprised at it's great road manners and the power it has for a 4 cylinder.

I never thought I would be so heartsick over trading a vehicle, what the hell was I thinking! While on paper this makes sense, my heart tells me I made a mistake. I tried twice to get her back, once on Saturday and again on Monday.
When I dropped off the car for it's once over, and to get some things done to it,I saw my Jeep out back. I walked over and took one last look, I almost felt like jumping in and driving off.
The little girl next door just now, she asked me what happened to the black Jeep. I told her it was gone, but someday I will have another one.

Thanks JP, considering I needed rear brakes and a soft top, they gave me $9500 for it. I wanted to do better, but I know I probably would only get about 11K if I sold it out right.
