I've had the real stuff when I was in Europe. It doesn't have the effect that people would have you believe. The halucinations that people would claim to have would be from the acid on the sugar cube, not the wormwood. I found it to be a little nasty tasting with a KILLER hangover. And I never had any halucinations. Guess my sugar cube wasn't spiked.

And it's Absinthe

^ 100% accurate! I had it when I was younger when I lived in Germany but it's nostalgic if anything now. It's an acquired taste. I hate black liquorish but I love Absinthe. I think the last time I drank it I also might have had a hit of the brown acid

Hahaha!!! Did it have you all cross-eyed?

It's too sweet of a liqueur for me, but it's something I can at least say I've tried. The couple times I had it left me with killer hangovers, though. Does it affect you that way too?

O yea big time...a couple shots and I'm useless the next day! I'm not a fan of sweet either but like I said it's nostalgic.

I used to import La Fee, which is made with the traditional Wormwood. I can't drink it straight, I have to do the sugar and water thing. Absinthe La Fee - Buy alcoholic liquor online

The hallucination BS probably came from the same people that made Reefer Madness. Totally a fabrication. It is a mean drink, though. It's a unique kind of drunk though. My mind was pretty lucid, but it was having trouble communicating with the rest of my body.

Actually, Absinth and Absinthe are both correct. Absinth is generally used for Bohemian (Czechoslovakian style, etc.), Absinthe is for the French style.

Many of the brands you can buy in the States now are 100% legitimate Absinthe brews. Lucid is one of the more tasty that I've tried. and it's got a cool bottle!! Lucid Absinthe: Home

Ewwww......you mean I've been spelling it the Frenchie way? Sumbitch. Let's go back to spelling it the Bohemian way. Damn the Frenchies.....

Absinthe worm wood at it's best. had some in japan in the 70's. really strange effects, and yes one bad headache after.
what i do remember was that it was illegal in the states.
and i imagine that like everything else it must be stronger today.

The Lucid that you can get in the states is good stuff. I think it was in 2007 when they started allowing the stuff to made with Grande wormwood in USA. I used to do the sugar cube but now I just do absinth and champagne the way Hemmingway drank it. Keep in mind though he shot himself in the face . A decent bottle of champagne and absinthe is the ticket to disconnecting your brain from you body.

A shotgun blast to the face is enough to ruin anyone's day.

Must have been hallucinating that he was pheasant hunting.

He also tried to kill himself (unsuccessfully) by walking into the spinning propeller of a plane.

I'm around planes/propellers every day and let me tell you, I'd rather take the shotgun blast to the face than the spinning propeller!!

Yea I think a shotgun blast would be the better of the two. Personally, I'm a jumper though if I had to choose (could never really do it, I'm gonna see this $hit to the end). I read a really interesting book a couple years ago about reading peoples personalities by the way they would choose to kill themselves (the jumper, the shooter, hanging yourself, etc..) I wish I could remember what it was called, good book.

I've had it while over in Belgium. I'm a black licorice fan, but it takes it to the extreme. Like a blast of Jager and the syrupy sweetness of Sambuca It's good, but it's not my first choice. And no, I didn't hallucinate. Just made an ass of myself in Antewerp

My friend bought a bottle of the Lucid brand awhile back. It came with the little sugar spoon thing and a couple of glasses. It isn't cheap. We wandered around Joshua Tree Nat'l Park looking for Gram Parsons resting place, came back to the cabin and enjoyed the Absynthe experience. If you've never heard of Gram Parson's Joshua Tree connection, google it. Or check out the video titled 'Gram Theft Parsons', based on the true story. Hilarious.

^ One of the great things about southern California, you can explore the desert in the morning, and make it back to the beach in the afternoon to check out the hot chicks..

Hey, she is apparently delightfully unaware of the images generated by her rear view.... I'd like to see any of you guys pics from the rear so we can critique them...... Mine for one looks nothing like that..... Older, saggier, and much, much smaller.....
