Exclamation Another winch question

I;m sure ya'll seen my add about the winch but I gotta know something. Do you guys or does anyone know if 9500lb winch would be enough for a 3/4 Ton Dodge diesel with 46 in tires? If I get this truck I don't plan on getting stuck but would that be enough winch since I can't seem to sale it, or should I try to trade it for a Warn 12,500lb HD PowerPLant. Any help would be great.

I'd say that would be on the small side for that truck. Hell just the 46's and wheels are probably going to weigh a 1000 pounds on their own.

On your truck or Jeep jjseel. Do ya'll know anyone that might want to trade? It don't rain much but when it does it gets pretty nasty if you're out to play. I don't think this truck could get stuck around here, it'd probably only get used on other people or never used at all.

My 03 Dodge 1 ton dually 4x4 weighed just over 9000lbs when loaded with all my tools and a 60 gallon auxiliary tank.
Are you wanting to lift the rig strait up off the ground?

Hey Skeeter we had to dead pull an XJ up a waterfall a couple weeks back due to a broken front axle shaft and I stalled Joe's 9K lb. winch out doing that. What on a 9500 lb winch you are only going to be pulling an actual 9500 lbs. with 1 layer left on the spool. Otherwise you are actually pulling at significantly less.

Here are the performance specs on my 9000i. Note that with 5 layers of cable you are only pulling at a rate of 6700 lbs.

layer/Lbs(Kgs.)
1/9000(4082)
2/8190(3715)
3/7500(3402)
4/7010(3180)
5/6570(2980)

Why would I lift it straight off the ground for? I doubt I would ever need the winch for that truck. If you stick something with 19inches of total lift and 46 inch tires I doubt a winch is gonna do much good. I don't plan on doing anything in the truck to get stuck and there is nothing here that will stick it unless I drive into the lake so I guess it really wouldn't need the winch anyway and I can use a towstrap for others so do I really even need the winch? Maybe thats why it don't have one now any way that and it don't appear to ever get wheeled but and up close in person ispection will answer all my questions.

3/4 ton 4x4 lifted, diesel, etc. Danged diesel is HEAVY! We haul hay bales from the field with it and the front tends to sink when it's mushy!

I'v been thinkin about the fact that I have over four years of payments on it and I'm not rich so I have no business tearin it up. I'm gonna find me a CJ or something.

Crazy lookin truck Mike. I wouldn't envy you having to replace those 46's when they wear out. Have you priced them? Just a quick search on a good tire site I've bought from before tells me that the 46's are bias ply and they run about 420 a piece. Those things are going to wear out in 15k miles probably

$420 ain't too bad bad I thought they would be like $600 I will probably lose the 3 inch body lft and go with some 42 or 44 if I get the truck the tires are brand new right now

Well that truck turned out to have a lot of problem and all I'd give for it was $8k, so I got a Toyota Tacoma. I miss my Jeep and my Trans Am but I like the truck its an 03 with the TRD package, I finally got a locker woohoo, its clean and has new rims and tires. Best of all I was able to get an unlimited bumper to bumper lifetime warranty for $35 dollars a month

There ya go, Mike. Now you have plenty of winch, for your truck. Best rule of thumb, is your winch should pull twice your vehicle weight. Especially when your in the mud. Mud will double the weight of your vehicle, plus some, with the suction it has.
