Any welders?

Does anyone weld as their profession? I'm about to go go college and I have done lots of welding in school in classes and out of school messing around. I just wanted to know how do you like it as a full time job. And are there a lot of job opportunities

Ya, I thought it would be fun so I got a job with General Telephone as a welder, I ended up hardfacing backhoe buckets in Indio in 126 degree weather with full leather protection, It wasn't that much fun anymore.

I weld in dry kilns, at aprox. 120 deg. most of the time, in the winter it's not to bad, but in the summer you come out side of there on and 80 deg. day fellng like you walked in to a air condistioned room, If you can get a job on a work bench, its great, you can be somewhat comfee, but long hours of welding will take it out of you in short order, you'll find your self looking for a nice bed to clime into at the end of the day. A job where some welding is requiered, like millwright, muffler shop, you will love every min. of it, good luck on your serch for the best way to use your skills.

I was thinking about something like not welding all day but maybe doing like lifts on cars and making my own shop. I can only imagine if I did that how big my jeep would be
