Anybody know Tax stuff?

Did my taxes with Turbo Tax 2008 this weekend, and it doesn't seem right? I payed in over $3500 to federal and it is saying only $600 back? I thought since I was 23, single, and make under $35,000 a year that I get most of my federal back, not less than 1/4. I know when you are older you get screwed, but I have always heard/read under $35,000 a year they give back almost all your federal. Just doesn't seem right to me, but I don't want to pay a tax guy a couple hundred bucks to tell me Turbo Tax was right to begin with..

i'm no expert but it is probably right. you make too much to get all the breaks, and you have no dependents i'm assuming and no deductions, so its probably right.

but think about this, you are better off getting just 600 back than having real estate tax, interest on your house loan, deductions for doing your job and childred to pay for. and getting a little more back

the good news is you get used to it, and you become numb to it.

The deductions like a house are big. They make a big difference.

Hey
Age,single have nothing to do with taxes

I always wondered why people are happy to get a refund?
IT MEANS YOU OVER PAID and they got to use that money.

What I do is put down 4 dependents at work,Easy just ask book keeper
Then file 1 on tax forms for myself at tax time
and I about break even on fed but with credits on state get back
500 Rent.heat,
Most important is my weekly check is bigger
money in my pocket weekly not waiting for at end of year

I am doing nothing illegal as long as I file 1 at end of year

I got a buddy that claims 99 for the last 3-4 months of the year or something so they take out NO taxes, and he usually breaks even or gets back around 100 bucks.

I just don't want to owe them anything if I can avoid it, I don't have enough laying around to pay those ... delete .. if I had to.

Weird. Guess I will just file it, I just remember reading under $35k a year doesn't pay hardly any fed taxes.

ya the deduction is bigger, but thats because you pay 10's of thousands in interest and taxes.

and i agree with birdhunter, the government has your money interest free all year, they should have as little of it as possible.

Welcome to the Republican Party.
All the social programs that people think are great ideas cost money$$$$. Wait until the Obama Trillion dollar bill comes due. The only thing you'll have left is Change$$$. The best advice I can give you is to start saving receipts for deductable stuff and vote for people who are fiscally concervative.
