anyone know about fake money?

i got a couple $100 bills today. and one of them is printed very crooked. to the point that one corner is not even on the piece of paper. is there any way to verify if this bill is real or not? if it turns out fake what am i to do? i'm sure the bank wont change it in for a real one, they'll just take the fake, that leaves me out $100. but i dont wanna spend it if its not real and risk me gettin in toruble. help please?

Where did you get it? Google search the serial number. You can look on tons of government websites to learn about fake money. It will help you learn exactly what your Benji should look like.

Always check your money when you get it. You are correct that nobody will swap it out for you if it is fake. You own that money now.

i did the light thing and the face was there. i'll check the serial number later. i just find it really odd to be printed that crooked. its not like its at a 45 degree angle or anything, but its definately noticeable to the naked eye, not like i needed a level or protractor to see it. if i get really bored i may even take a picture of it and post it later for yall to see what i'm talkin bout

stores also use a counterfit pen. ask your bank to test the bill with the pen for you.

Well, if what you have is a real 100 bill and is crooked, it might be worth much more than face value to a collector!

I have seen that a few times. I think it is due to the speed of production......... As long as you can see the hidden face, and the blue and red threads, you should be ok.?

I'd also be very careful who you actually show that thing to, if you flash it in a bank and they suspect it might be counterfeit, they may be required by law to confiscate it, real or not.

thats what i wasn thinkin. i wanna know everything i can before i take it anywhere. upon further inspection it appears that the bill was cut at an agle more so than printed crooked. bc when i held it up next to another $100 the size was off a bit. and i could notice the red and blue fibers. one other thing that caught my eye was some minute (my-noot) ink color differences in the 2 bills, but that could just be from different batches of ink or something. still havent looked up the serial number yet

If it is a odd print it can be worth more then what the value is. I know mis stamped coins go for a lot.

Check the serial

Send it to me I'll take care of it for you!!!

In all seriousness if it was fake simply being in possession is hard to prove becaue they would have to prove you knew it was fake and how you know. I can almost guess that no one here is an expert at that.

Secondly if it a printing error it could be worth some money but it all depends on the type and degree of error. Go to a coin and stamp store they should be able to give you and idea of worth. FYI many, many error bills are passed daily right through our own hands. Web notes is an example. I know this guy who had a serial number on a $1 bill of "01234567" and got $1500 for it on ebay. I've sold unique serial numbered bills on e-bay for 2 to 5 times face.

If it a fake and you go to the bank they will take it and you are out $100. Personally is you know someone with one of those pens or buy one and check it out. If it's real and a cashier gives you grief tell them to call the Secret Service. Usually the manager will tell them to accept the bill. Now if you get a pen and it is in fact fake and you try and pass it...and get caught....and you knew it was fake.....Let us know how Leavenworth really is. Not really the feds have better thing to do than send one tax payer to prison.

Mis-cut bills could also go for above face too.

there are water marks of the face in the paper along with a strip that says $100 across it (up and down) several times. the pen thing people are trying to steer away from now cause people have figured out how to get the paper to make it a good reading. I would check the serial number like Cliff said and look for those identifying traits...

x2.. watermark on the right side of Ben's face; embedded strip on the left side saying "USA 100" over & over.
