Are you going with piston or impingement? BTW I don't currently own any due to an unfortunate boating incident.

Impingement. I'm trying to keep it as basic and "cheap" as possible. Ordered the hand guard yesterday. And hopefully by next month I'll have everything else to get it all together and ready to shoot.

Those boating accidents suck. Happens to a lot of us though.

Read up on FOPA (Firearm Owners Protection Act) of 1986.
The ATF now HAS to have a reason to start checking firearm purchase records on US citizens. They don't just have a computer bank of firearm purchases per customer. Big brother doesn't know as much as they'd like you to think. Think about all of the private sales of weapons that happens every day that aren't recorded at all.

OPSEC = OPerational SECurity
In other words, don't talk about things that might get you or yours in trouble. Keep important information contained to those who are in the NEED to know. It's the basis of NEED TO KNOW information.
It's important militarily speaking. The less the enemy knows about our troop movements/operations, the better.

Given enough rope, most people will hang themselves.

That is unfortunately very true.

So is it an organization that monitors things or just like a rule of thumb that's a good idea to follow? I mean, I wouldn't see an issue with threads like this or fire arm forums just talking about our guns as a hobby. Just as we discuss what lift and tires we have, how would it pose a threat to discus our guns?

Really no need to have a shop build the lower. It is very easy to do with common tools. Save for a good optic. I had a cheapo red dot in this picture, but just got an Eotech 512, and it is the BOMB!

Now you have to figure out how to secure it in the Jeep. I had this set up mounted to the drive shaft tunnel of my HUMMER H3.

I eventually moved it under the rear seat of my F150 SCREW

Now looking for a suitable discreet mounting solution in my JKU. The Eotech set up on the pictured rifle has been dumped in favor of an Aimport Micro T1.

Can I ask why you dumped the Eotech? Just curious, not bashing your decision or anything.

Here are a couple. I built the far right one. Its a Palmetto State Armory upper, Aero Precision lower. The center is a Spikes Tactical, and the left is my WASR 10/63.

Well there is one less Bushmaster owner this afternoon... Seems this 24 year old had good taste in weapons. A Bushmaster, Glock 17 and Sig 226.

The dot is not as crisp, there with the outer ring there is a lot going on in the field of view, and like so many others, I found it shutting off for a second or two during some drills. It is stuck back in the safe for now, but likely will never buy anything but Aimpoint ever again.

Soooo....the handgaurd came last week, and the ejection port assembly, forward assist, and charging handle came yesterday. Now I'm just waiting on the bolt and then I need to decide on sights or optics...or both.

Luckily for me I had pretty much all the parts on order before all this BS went down.
Oh and I also ordered another upper, DPMS .22LR ...So excited

I'm thinking of going with a fixed 10x on a quick detach base and then some flip up iron sights.

Very nice set up you have there. Based on the build, I would take a wild guess that this is not just a hobby gun, but a tool for your job? What brand can is that on the end, i'm looking to start the process of getting one. Any pro's or con's to it?

Actually, that one is a personal gun though not a hobby gun. Home gun/truck gun. The Eotec and magnifier have been replaced by an Aimpoint Micro T1. The can is an AAC M4-1000. If I were going to buy another 5.56 can I would do the AAC SR5.

Pro's- It's quieter, the report is similar to a .22lr. You can shoot it comfortably withoout any ear pro. Would I do that all day? No, but if I had to jump out and deploy the gun quickly I would not be concerned about any hearing damage, likewise, greatly reuces the risk of hearing damage if the carbine is fired in an enclosed environment.

I have supressors for .22, 5.56 and .45 acp. I am fond of saying that I own hearing protection for my friends who don't won supressors, lol.

Modern supressors enhance accuracy and increase muzzle velocity. Google "Free Bore Boost."

Con's-It does increase the back pressure in impingment guns which can accelerate wear on some parts, though I don't think significantly. That back pressure often comes out throough the charging handle recess, so sometimes when firing you may feel like someone just "blew" into your face. Not a big deal.

I gotta call B.S. on this, normally I'm on board with most of your statements, But "Big Brother" know what ever it wants. Nothing is private and there is very little oversight with the ATF or any of the alphabet agencies. Heck, how many and for how long were weapons going to mexico.

Buy any thing with a debit or credit card, they know. They can find anything with a few key stokes.

and as long as beer is cheap, Monday night football, or jersey shore is on most Americans, just don't care. Why do you think congress got involved with baseball? they can't have their distractions fooled with.

I was stating that it's against the law for the ATF to track anything we do without just cause...not that they DON'T do it. I also think that our Gov't feeds off this Big Brother concept. It makes them look ALL POWERFUL. Maybe more so than they really are. I'm not minimizing their reach, but sometimes I doubt it's as far as they'd like you to believe.
