Are You Represented?????

Quote:
Mod edit: added poll per request....
I was wondering about the political climate among you guys. How many of you feel like you have a voice in the process? The reason I ask is this, I have sent messages to my representatives and senators only to recieve a "canned" response that really does not address ANY of my concerns. My question is..... do any of you feel like you have a voice in what is determined in policy, or are you placated and marginalized when you try to let your opinion be known?

Be nice, and stick to factual information, please!

I wanted to post a poll with this thread. but only 2 minutes to post one screwed me over!

Agreed...politicians are all corrupt and they only listen if you have money, sad but true. I gave up on trying to write this guy and that guy, it's a waste of time, I don't watch the news and I don't read the paper cause I just don't care anymore it's all depressing bullsh*t.

I have said it in another thread, stock up on guns, ammo and food cause the revolution is a commin, we can only take so much.

Let's not go to the anarchy option, just yet. There are alternatives. Thinking that no one listens is a problem. If we vote ALL of these jokers out on the next couple of election cycles, I think the message will get through! Much better than a coup.

I hear ya, I would still rather live in the woods and off the land the way things should be than trying to figure out who is and isn't in it for the money, and who cares and who doesn't. This is the way things have been for hundreds of years and voting out these "jokers" will do nothing except bring in new "jokers". Don't get me wrong, I vote for the best candidate not my party, pay my taxes, and be a good boy but your beating a dead horse if you think everything is going to change/get better by voting and writing your congressmen.

I don't feel my representatives care what I have to say, but they damn well care when a million plus show up in DC for a tea party.
My voice is as loud as I want to put the effort into making it.
The town hall meetings, the tea parties, the letters and phone calls have scared the living crap out of the politicians or they would have already passed the government healthcare take over.

I agree, that they have gotten a message. We can't stop now, or they will just dismiss it as a bunch of loonies who buy into Glenn Beck!

Keep up the pressure!!!

Health insurance companies have had the most influence over whats going on, not those tea parties. I'm going to leave the thread before I get splashed with the Kool-Aid.

Another example of advoiding the issue. Blame it on someone and throw up your hands. Sorry Lev., that's how I feel.

Until and unless the people of this country realize that WE have the power to affect the outcomes of any issue, we will be usurped by the special interests. They can throw as much influence and money at legislation as they want to, but NO corporation or group has a vote!!!

I do vote and I have written my congressman, so I have a right to complain. I respect everyone's opinion on this subject as well and it's a touchy subject for most so be prepared for a violent thread LOL, and Dare2bsquare you make a good point and I do agree with you. If everyone voted and wrote things COULD be a lot different and maybe they will be in the future but IMO I don't see it but that's just my opinion. I think the majority of Americans would resort to violence before resorting to a pen...to quote Toby Kieth "we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way!"

Most Republicans and Democrats alike are centrists. However, the modern Democratic party has morphed into some strange aminal that looks more like socialism. The big shots running the machine are leaning hard on the centrists to support their radical ideas and the DNC uses its money to gain compliance. The Nancy Pelosi's of the world are the minority, but some how have gained power over the whole system. The perfect storm of liberal media, judges, representatives and President are taking us down a dangerous path with NO checks and balances. It will be a long road home.

Over a year ago, Cain and I were dealing with the Veterans Administration. We struggled to get our voices heard so we could move on with our lives. Phone calls every day and emails to the VA got us nothing but a run around. Snotty people answering the phone basically telling us they would get around to it when they did and there was nothing we could do about.

Together we contacted over a dozen congress people by letter, email, and phone. Senator Rockefeller from WV, Congressman Issa from here in California, and Congressman Bob Filner who is chairman of the house committee on Veterans Affairs all contacted us, along with a few others. After fighting for a year to get the issue settled ourselves, it took only two months to get it solved after all three of these men personally called the VA offices. This also helped spur a massive investigation into the backlogged cases at the VA.

I have found that the people who say it doesn't work are often times the people who have never put pen to paper. Cain and I are living proof that writing your congress people can work.

I've heard this claim from the left many times but I've never seen them provide the evidence for it. Do you have anything to back it up?

Politicians need votes, if they piss off their constituents too much, no amount of campaign funding will save their career. It's not the republicans holding things up. The democrats control the House and the Senate as well as the White House, they don't need republicans at all.

Tiny. Thanks if you are the one who "fixed" my poll!

Toby Keith's opinion carries about as much weight as Bette Midler's! They do not speak for me. I speak for me. I will speak and vote for what I think is best for the country, not even necessarily my own political views or inclinations. If more people had this philosophy maybe we could turn things around.

Toby Kieth's opinion doesn't matter to me either I just thought it was relevant at the time. Don't be so defensive you asked for opinions and your going to get them. I told you I agreed with you and I also vote for what I feel is best for my country. This is my last post on this topic cause it's gonna turn into a blood bath, you should go door to door and "Speak" to people about how you feel maybe you could force your opinion on them, I'm sure they wouldn't slam the door in your face and tell you to

Just like in the other thread, it's all about the votes to me. I look at it like this...if I was to run for an office, whatever issue I got elected on I'll fight for it until it gets passed or I get voted out. They all make these promises when they are running for office but they don't stick to their guns. You give them an 8 year term limit like the president, you'll see som e action then I'll bet.

Now, I'm not saying the system doesn't always work, but it has a lot of problems. And I do vote and write my Congressmen and Senators.

I thought we were having a rather civil discussion.

There's no need for a blood bath.
