Assaulted on the way to work today.

Driving down a 4 lane hwy going to work this am and a water baloon exploded on my windshield as I passed a bus heading to its high school. I pulled the bus over and called 911. Of course, some kids verbally assaulted me for holding them up so the bus driver left after leaving me her name, location and bus number. PO arrived and we drove over to the high school to identify the hoodlum, they had the bus locked down. Someone has to get these kids under control. Turns out it was a 16yo who had the colorful language. Won't know who threw the baloon until the PD gets the video. The PO's were great and were very serious in dealing with it, despite it being just a water baloon. Gonna be a while before it gets it's day in court. I don't think juvy is the answer though, they need to be made to volunteer at the VA hospital in the geriatrics ward, getting to know the veterans who gave them the right to be assholes. Now, wonder if I have to worry about retaliation??? Time to put the gun in the car.

You handled that in one of our "correct" ways now-a-days, instead of letting anger take over, which would have got "YOU" in trouble, well done !!

Well, not to use against a bus, but these kids live on the route I drive to work and will have no problem identifying my jeep. You never know what teenagers are capable of these days?!? I don't want to shoot anyone, but if I am attacked out of the blue, driving down the road, I have no issue defending myself with deadly force, regardless of their age.

Teenagers can be idiots at times, don't use their brain, and just down right defiant I know, I have two! But the truth is, that same idiot can be an alright kid at heart, they can't help it sometimes. Deadly force seems extreme, and you'll be the one paying for it with todays system

could there be juvi time for that??
I am a teenager, and not quite an idiot... I try not to be defiant either! so not all of us are horrible! but, for those of you who saw that thread that "I" posted... well, that proves that some kids can be butts. But I feel horrible about that, I cant stop apologizing enough!

Not sure juvi would do anything these days. These may have been good kids as individuals but it's always getting in a group that gets them in trouble. I think community service and "Scared Straight" programs work better. Remember Scared Straight anyone? And for community service, I don't mean picking up trash. My daughter got a ticket for being a minor with cigarettes, they made her work for Habitat for Humanity for a couple days. Not to mention have her in a squad car for an hour or so until I picked her up. Didn't touch a cigarette again...at least until she graduated HS. She snuck out once in the 9th grade. Wife took her to the PD. They showed her the cells, some prisoners and told her this was stike one of three. She thought the cigarette incident of the 11th grade was strike 2. We had fun with that one. It worked and she changed friends from the one that talked her into going out. She was a trouble-maker anyhow.
I guess all good people suffer when you have a bad apple in the bunch, prolly never find the right answer.

when i was a punk i once tossed a balloon out the window of a car we were driving in and it was LOUD when it hit their windshield and they slammed on the brakes, we took off and got away but i felt so bad after that i never threw another balloon of anything at another car... its dangerous, even water can cause a major accident because the driver is blinded and freaked the hell out...

although i wonder how the heck did you pull a buss over in your jeep??

Tried the "Pit" maneuver but the dang bus just wouldn't budge. Actually, we weren't going very fast so I just got in front and stopped her. She wasn't happy but was okay with it once I told her what had happened.

The unfortunate part of all this is that it's likely the parents will yell and scream and holler until their precious child is merely slapped on the wrist.

If one of my children had done soemthing like this, I would have made them make ammends to the victim by washine their cars, cleaning their yeards and just whatever it took to keep them miserable for at least a month. This is of course AFTER the ass whoopin.

I dare one of my two kids to pull some crap like this. They would NEVER do anything like that again.

First off I'm 23 for the record it hasn't been that long since I was a teenager...
I would like to point out that I happen to know someone who was "retaliated" against for turning in a 16yr old for smoking pot.....
The kid walked out in front of my friends car with a crowbar in his hand and told him to get out of the car....initially he refused and attempted to go around the kid ..... the kid moved to be in front of the car..... At this point he could have just run the kid over and he still would have been in the right.....
Being a CCW permit holder he did as instructed to attempt to diffuse the situation and apologized to the kid and explained that it was better he got caught now than in 2 years when he was no longer a minor... the kid charged at him raised the crowbar .....and fell to the ground before he was within 6 feet of my friend ...... The kids parents watched their son get shot from their front porch...... It took 2 days of answering questions and 1 day in court to clear his name....

Don't think for one minuet that it is OK to be a kid and make bad decisions I know from experience that the law has no feelings and it does not care what the situation might be.....
Personally I blame most mistakes and like on the parents, you can't prevent everything but there is a right and wrong way to deal with things, in this case the parents thought my friend deserved to rot in jail yet they were fine with their son attacking him with a crowbar.........

If it were my kid that threw a balloon at a car like that I would have done the same thing my dad would have done ..... Beat my ass till I stopped crying and haul me down to the local PD to have them "explain things"....
That is/was the first and last time they/I would do something stupid

Okay, So Im fairly new on the forum, And I don't really post alot. I am torn two directions on this situation. On one hand, it was totally wrong for them to throw water balloons towards anybody's vehicle, but I can seem to overlook that one MORE than I can them cursing at yelling at you once you got the bus stop. On the other hand, Kids have been causing chaos with waterballoons since forever, at least it was a water balloon and not a rock. Personally, I would have gave them one water balloon. If it continued I would have then did exactly as you. Should they have done it? No. But being a teenager not so long ago I can somewhat understand where they are coming from.

I could look the other way if the kid knew the driver of the car and the driver could see it coming and it was the only car on the road and the kid knew the driver was prepared for the attack.... we used to attack my dads car with nerf guns when he came up the street from work..... on a 10mph street with 4-5 kids (8&9 yr olds) on one side with brightly colored foam flinging toys that were lucky if they shot 20 feet trained on your car as you come down the road from 600ft out...... he knew there was about to be an ambush and that worst case scenario one of the suction cup darts would stick to a window and he would have to make sure it got back to its rightful owner...... there is a difference between fun and games and chaotic and very dangerous ......
I know where they were coming from they were being dumb jerks and deserve punishment its that simple.....

and if everyone gave them one balloon they would never get the point, someone has to stand up to the kids and say something, get them in trouble so that they know its wrong.

dont let childish behavior go unpunished or they wont learn that treating other poeple like that isnt right. it doesnt matter if they are young and stupid, thats no excuse to not get in trouble for it...

if a blind man decided to go for a drive and hit your car, would you let him have that one accident because he didnt know better and see if he does it again??

its people that let childish behavior go on (even into adulthood) "because they're kids" are the people that let this country become the land of idiocracy not democracy...

i think he did was right in everyway, and that kid shouldnt go to jail for it but definately be punished because you dont throw things at moving vehicles. whether its a rock or an egg or a waterballoon, its wrong and people can get hurt... nuff said.

I agree.. It was stupid, and certainly not the right thing to do.. But there are kids out there dumb enough to throw rocks and things that actually cause damage at moving cars.. I'm just glad this kid at least had the brain power to only use a water balloon.

with that being said, I completely agree that you never know how some kids might try to retaliate. It's scary just to think about the capabilities some kids might have if they truly decide that they want to get back at you.. If their father keeps unlocked firearms around the house, who is to say that this kid is not mad enough to actually try to do something with it.. scary scary..

On our last day senior year we always had a water battle. It was finally my classes year coming up, but some A-holes from the year before us used Bleach filled balloons and piss filled balloons.

We never got our chance, and I was always really upset about it.

Different, but quite entertaining. We used to have egg fights with our cross-town rival. Sometimes ended in regular fights but it was all good.

As for me packing heat in the car, I can assure you I have no ill will toward these kids. No plans to hunt them down or anything. And they may never do anything beyond flipping me the bird as I pass, if anything. I used to always carry a pistol in the car but quit after a while for no apparent reason. Now with the Tuffy console, better to be safe than sorry.

I tried to post a reponse about a similar incident. but it made me log back in to post it so I closed the browser I was so pissed (It took awhile to post it all).

long story short I was in a buddies car back in "the day" and we got hit w/ H20 balloon, car behind us was our friends, they got hit w/ a rock.

We chased the kids down an alley, and surrounded the house they went into. called cops, and they and the parents got fined. no one was injured.

KG4 - that's the real reason I got the tuffy console...when I can't carry on my person I now feel comfortable carrying in the Jeep.

Water balloons are mostly harmless, yes, when used in a usual manner...but get them up to the velocities generated by two opposite moving vehicles and they can become deadly!

Especially when you take into consideration the soft top of a Jeep, or no top at all!

I was a law enforcement officer for 21 years...Ya wanna know what we used to disrupt (Meaning blow the ever living crud out of) suspected explosive devices? A water balloon shot from an air cannon. You would have thought the thing had gotten hit with a real cannonball it caused such destruction!

I most heartedly agree that behavior had to be addressed and stopped before someone got hurt or worse by a kid's "harmless" water balloon.

(on an aside, we didn't really use actual balloons to hold the water, they just weren't the right shape...You ever try to get a requisition through government channels for 1000 condoms? Fun)

Good job; most of America's problems right now stem from a lack of consequences for actions. Maybe this kid will learn.

Four people on my bus in high school would throw all kinds of crap at on coming cars. It really pisses me off cause I know they're still on the bus now that I'm out of school and I really hate passing school busses now

I misread davis's comment and didn't see the "opposite moving" velocities part.

Woops.

I went on a rant about how two vehicles moving at the same speed won't add velocity to an airborne object...

yeah, teenagers are quite daring. I remember growing up down in Troy and hearing of kids throwing bowling balls off one of the overpasses on I75! I always hated my commute down to Detroit when I would see kids out in the fenced in overpasses tossing stuff down and spitting on cars. Mom is home drunk off her a$$ watching wheel of fortune, dad is in jail for selling crack and little Johnny is out on the overpass taking lessons from another degenerate child two years older than him. It really sucks, parents need to raise kids not just have them. Anyone can make a baby, but it takes a lot to be a Mom or Dad. And of course, all the neighbors say "its not my kid, not my problem" oh yeah? it will be when he/she decides to set your house on fire or take advantage of your little kids!

Some of you younger guys may really think mom and dad suck because of being hard a$$es sometimes, but I tell ya what, you'll thank 'em one day. Trust me... And for you older guys, you know what I mean. I already read about some of it!
