Back

Wow...there are a few more people here now then when I left.

Well, I may be back. Life threw a few curve balls, but should have some free time soon. I know that just makes everyone so excited.

I promise I will play nice, and for those that remember OC, she will probably not be returning.

I thought I would start off with a few pics of my newest little boy. Think of him as a 5 Year old with ADD and a can opener.

He is a blue and gold Macaw. They are a docile breed but can still snip off a finger if provoked or scared. I also have a Yellow Naped Amazon that is a little harder to handle. Both of these are not for a novice handler, but they are very cool when they bond with their owner.

OH yeah...Forgot to mention, The Jeep is still in one piece and running strong.

Nice looking bird.
Welcome back and tell OC she's missed by a few of us.

Hopefully I made a good impression.

Heya skeeter, thanks. I have been away so long, I guess I need to read a bit to catch up.

Just goes to show you...

Old WFers never die, they just disappear for a while. Wait long enough and they will return.

(that's a good thing, most of the time)

Welcome back.

Because I feed my parrots only fresh natural foods, he will probably live between 50 and 60 years.

My Amazon can expect to live that long also. The smaller the bird the less the lifespan.

To add...The 100 year old parrot is an urban myth. To my knowledge, the oldest ever recorded was 80. Most pass to early because people do not know how to work with them or feed them. Even burning a teflon skillet will poison even the strongest bird. Heck it poisons you also, we are just better at taking it.

Welcome back Odhinn.. kind of ironic, I was wondering about you the other day.

Good luck with your bird. My mother-in-law has a blue and gold like that....what a pisser he is. Kind of like an underchallenged 8 year old stuck in a bird suit. I have an African Gray myself....funniest (and most complicated) bird I've owned yet. I don't think there's a day that goes by that he doesn't make me laugh my ass off on something.

The greys are cool, but a little to needy for my taste. Usually very tempermental when they bond with one person. Keep this in mind, If he pukes on you it means he loves you. I am still handfeeding the B&G. Makes it much easier to handle him because he thinks I am mommy. I wouldn't recommend handfeeding unless you have experience or a mentor. It can kill a baby bird in about 30 second if done incorrectly. The only time he should be a problem is during the terrible 2's and when it is mating season.

BTW...It is good to be back.

I dont use teflon for that very reason. I had heard the 100-year figure.

Welcome back. Good to see some of the old names coming back.

and that is a beautiful macaw. I bred and raised parrots with my father. Most recently I had an African Gray but had to get rid of her. She became too attached to me and would try to attack my fiance whenever she could.

Our gray has bonded with my wife and so he bites everyone else. I know the feeling. The only reason I keep him around is for the entertainment value. He says the craziest things sometimes.
