Border patrol resposible for illegals

I just don't know what to say

BP eyes terrorism, area chief declares
CÉSAR G. RODRIGUEZ
LAREDO MORNING TIMES

Border Patrol agents dont have the responsibility of apprehending illegal immigrants, Carlos X. Carrillo, chief patrol agent for the Laredo sector, said at a town hall meeting Wednesday.”The Border Patrol is not equipped to stop illegal immigrants,” Carrillo said, noting that illegal narcotics are also not on the agents priority list.

“The Border Patrol mission is not to do any of those things,” he emphasized.

The Border Patrols mission is to keep the country safe from terrorist and terrorist weapons, he said. Carrillo added that when and if terrorists come into the country, the agents will be ready.

During a presentation to about 50 people, he also explained the different deployment tactics agents use to identify who crosses the border.

A hot issue during the meeting was the construction of a fence along the Rio Grande.

Carrillo said the Carrizo cane along the river is an environmental challenge. He said that before enforcing any type of fence, the Carrizo canes need to be addressed, allowing agents to patrol and spot traffic in the river.

Mayor Raul Salinas spoke to the audience about using taxpayer money to build a fence.

“I want a secure border, but I want more common sense,” Salinas said, adding that the fence would affect relations with Mexico.

A concerned citizen asked about deterrence.

Carrillo said deterrence comes from working with the community. He added that having a certain number of agents working an area indicates to the community their presence in the area.

A concerned citizen, who lives on property about 34 miles out of Laredo on Interstate 35, said she has seen from 20 to 50 illegal immigrants daily. She said agents have addressed the situation before, but they can only do so much and the situation continues.

Carrillo responded that the Border Patrol will look into the issue.

To report any suspicious activity, Carrillo said, residents should contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement at (800) 973-2867.

Teh interwebs

I think some Texans need to have a bit of a chat with Mr. Carrillo
I'd like to know how the hell he came up with the idea that his agents aren't responsible for stopping all illegal traffic across the border.

I'd like to see Mr. Carillo have a talk with our Sherrif Joe Arpaio and Gov. Janet Napolitano

I'd sure like to see the rest of the country catch up with some of the stuff we are doing here in Arizona.

And you need to read into the promotional articles the AZ Repugnant does on our Governor. The only immigration issues she deals with are the ones the Legislative branch forces on her.

So I guess the job of the Coast Guard is to only stop terrorists also then.

I would say that guy might have a career change in his future.

I don't know if you guys have ever crossed the border at Laredo but it's just like crossing any state line. Easy to come and easy to go. I love me some Nuevo Laredo Margarita's!

INS has been absorbed by Homeland Security, along with most of the other alphabet agencies. That was supposed to be the Homeland Security's purpose, to coordinate all of the fed agencies so they could work more efficiently.
Which sounds good in theory, if they kept to their stated purpose. Instead, they're using it to consolidate too many resources, and focusing them on a single problem (the war on terror) instead of allowing the different agencies to handle the duties they were created to handle.

haha I'm sure some of our True-Blue Americans in the south would be more than willing to assist the Border Patrol. The Border Patrol can handle terrorists, and the Texans can handle anything(and everything) else. =)

If the feds will throw their own men into prison, for doing their jobs, what do you suppose they'd do to civilians who take up arms along our border?

My first thought is the Border Patrol is not equipped to handle terrorists.
The border is too vast, they can't even see all the illegals that cross.

They sure do try and bust some asses at our borders. Hackle's right our worthless governor Janet Napolitano only does what she absolutely has to.

I don't care what California says. If enough people mobilize on a scale of the Minute Men project then we can and will stop illegal immigration at the southern border.

No one is more frusterated than the Border Patrol Agents. The political crap is so ingrained in that agency that they can't accomplish much. The BP brass are political appointees. They need to scrap the BP and start over. I feel bad for them. I have several friends that started their careers in BP, but they all got sick of it and went to US Customs.

I remember you mentioning that when we were in Llano. I just couldn't remember if you ever decided to go through with it. I was really drunk.
