Buying a f-250 diesel next week

So I am buying this f-250 diesel STICK has 125k on the clock and it is a 99. I have a question for the guys out there that might have better luck with finding out what trans came in it. IT is a 4 speed with High gear and Low gear so it is tech a 6 speed-- The one 6 speed I found seems right but I dunno any help is greatly appreciated. What is worse I bleed blue thru and thru but can't figure this out. If the 6 speed I am thinking it is it will have a 5.89 to 1 granny first gear .

true dat. my uncle has 2 and those things are nuts!!!! his work truck is a 99, personal truck is a 97. those things are so much fun. damn near bullet proof. his work truck had 130,000 miles in it when he bought it, and now he is rolling around about 250,000 and still running strong

No problem. I'm an ol' powerstroke fan. Still have two back home.

They ran the E40D up through the 98's and then kill it....started with the 4R100 with the production of the 99's.

At 125k I don't think the trans will be a issue and along with I remember these being built like a tank. I am going to bring down my moms chevy tahoe 08 and a trailer. Then get the truck load up the tahoe and tow it home . Well even just moving the trailer loaded will tell me if the trans or clutch is going. Then if it is not I am going to be the proud new papa of a diesel f-250- the tow home will be a fun one!

No I am redneck that goes beyond that.

BTW I have a buddy with dual 5in exhaust and a bullydog tuner for me ready to go. hehe so stock truck meet almost 400 horse and 600-650 ft pounds of torque at the tires

With trailer brakes and controler in the F250...you'll bearly know that tahoe is back their unless the wind picks up.

Always with trailer brakes and the controller. I am tempted to go get the trailer just north of me (40 foot gooser) That would allow me 3 - 4 rigs for a moab run hehe

Give me a second and I'll dig up my book

It has been a stick the whole time. Sense I did say it was a 6 speed! They didn't make a 6 speed auto diesel trans with a 7.3L!

So what tranny then. I can't seem to figure it out. It had a 4 pattern but left of the 1-2 there is a high and a low. So I figured this is a 6 speed with a granny low

I know what your talking about and "think" if I remember right it's the ZF 6 speed. OR what we use to call the 6spd handshaker. .

I'll let you know for sure when I find the book. My brother has a 99 350 with the ol' handshaker. And still cant remember off the top of my head what the name of the trans is.

ZF 6-speed
Low = 5.79
1st = 3.31
2nd = 2.10
3rd = 1.31
4th = 1.00
5th = 0.72

rated for 520 ft/lbs torque

^ you are correct . That trans is a monster! I dunno what I would ever want with a 5.79 first but it sure will make a mess of the road hehe

i have a 6.29 granny in my pickup, if you use it on the road, all the traffic runs over you when you grab 2nd at 5 mph. lol. in 4lo in granny i can get out and walk faster.

its nice when you're loaded down though

i'll plus 1 that the 7.3 powerstrokes were damn good engines

Yea that is why I want the 7.3l. I love that damn motor and the truck will fall apart around the motor lol. I have used granny gears before but never with a load on a trailer just to waste tires

Just a note if you get one with the 4r100, install larger cooler and a deep pan. Heat kills the 4r100.

you wont kill any tires with a 5.xx granny, since that powerstroke will redline before you can spin a tire to more than 10 mph
