Can Chickens be Modified...

...to run on ethanol?

Quote:
"Based in Pittsburg, Texas, Pilgrim's Pride said it will close a chicken-processing complex in Siler City, N.C., and distribution centers in Oskaloosa, Iowa; Plant City and Pompano Beach, Fla.; Jackson, Miss.; Nashville; and Cincinnati.

Pilgrim's Pride and other food producers blame the higher feed prices on U.S. government policies and subsidies that encourage ethanol production. Making the biofuel ethanol requires millions of bushels of corn, and that added demand is driving up prices for the grain."

Yes, but it requires a permit from the federal government.

The solution will be making our cars run on chickens. Only then will it be fair.

what the government doesn't want you to know is: even if the entire US of A was covered with corn crops 100%, there would not be enough corn to make enough ethanol to meet our demand, it is not a viable fuel solution. but they don't want to talk about that

See? There you go trying to apply logic to a government program. We will have none of that kind of behavior here, mister! You can expect a visit from the Jack-booted stormtroopers any minute now! Enjoy!

Wouldn't chickens running on ethanol just be a bunch of hammered chickens stumbling around?

Food vs Fuel

Interesting reading on this topic from the National Corn Growers Association:

http://www.ncga.com/ethanol/pdfs/200...omCorn0207.pdf

Quote: Ethanol critics often suggest using corn to make fuel will take corn away from human food markets. This argument is patently false and misguided, as U.S. producers will continue to adequately supply all markets with high quality corn. Consider that the industry easily met demand for all corn uses in 2005 and still finished the year with the highest surplus since the late 1980s."

Quote: A NOTE ON THE “FOOD VS. FUEL” DEBATE
Additionally, ethanol production currently utilizes only the starch portion of the kernel. Starch is abundant and relatively low in value. The remaining protein, fat, fiber and minerals are incorporated into DDGS, the high-value livestock feed produced at ethanol plants. Also, ethanol is produced from field corn fed to livestock, not sweet corn grown for humans. The amount of field corn used for human food processing (starch, sweeteners, and cereal) normally amounts to just 5-8 percent of total corn usage. Additionally, corn demand for food processing markets has been flat for the last 15 years. For more information on this issue, see NCGA’s paper, U.S. Corn Growers: Producing Food AND Fuel.

Quote: DDGS WILL INCREASINGLY DISPLACE CORN IN FEED RATIONS
Increased ethanol production will generate increased supplies of distillers grains, often referred to as DDGS. These high-protein coproducts will increasingly displace corn in beef, dairy, poultry and swine rations. The nutritional quality and transportability of distillers grains products are steadily improving and future products will be more prescriptive in nature. ProExporter projects distillers grains will displace more than 1 billion bushels of corn for feed per year starting in 2008-09, freeing up this corn for other uses.

So, who do you believe? Will liquor prices start going up because distillers grains are displacing corn as feed? All so Al Gore can make millions using scare tactics about global warming? Say it ain't so!
