I'm from the deep south so I can't really relate to snow ... but how in the hell do you have a 100 car pile up? We've had several large pileups on those long Louisiana bridges in heavy fog, but 100 vehicles? I don't care how bad the weather is .... no excuse for 100 vehicles other than operator error. If it's that bad, stay off the roads. Just my dos centavos.

I live 5 min from where it happened and they said it was started by a truck driver some how and it had a chain reaction and also they are not salting the roads as much because there running out of salt so it was all ice

Poor road conditions + idiot drivers + tailgaters = 100 car pile up.

Had that happen to me this past week in the snow storm we got.
I was leaving work and traffic was extremely bad (6 hours for a 25 mile drive) but I decided to take this one road that had a very large hill in both directions, just as I top the hill in the opposite side there were cars and a city bus stuck half way up the hill blocking traffic and then i see headlights coming up the hill in my lane, I never stopped and the guy had to quickly put it in reverse and start backing up. I guess it's a little intimidating being in an Nissan maxima and have a lifted jeep with an after market front bumper with a stinger coming at you.

Several years ago this happened on I-95 South of DC. The roads were clean but there was a lot of snow on the trees and ground. The wind blew the snow across the highway obscuring the road ahead where there was an accident. Everyone was going full speed and didn't know what was going on ahead until it was too late. 126 cars and 2 fatalities. It took me 10 hours to get home when it normally took 1 and a half.
