Car insurance

I am looking to switch car insurance companies so I've been getting different quotes and such. My question is do I need to keep comprehensive and collision insurance on both vehicles? Both vehicles are over 10 years old now so I don't know. I've set my deductibles around $250 or $500 for each, but I just don't know if I need to keep that since my vehicles are that old. I'm not real concerned about my 04 Envoy, but my Jeep I would be a little upset if something happened.

Comprehensive and collision are each typically required only if your vehicle is not paid off (i.e., it serves to protect the lien holder against loss). Most states (if not all?) require liability at the minimum on a vehicle that you actually own.

Liability protects the other driver if you cause damage. Collision protects you if you cause damage. Comprehensive protects you for flood, fire, theft. Determine your vehicles worth and your ability to repair/replace should anything happen to your vehicle.

I have liability on both vehicles at 100,000/300,000 which is what I will stay at. My Envoy is probably only worth $5,000, and I have been wanting to get a new vehicle anyway. I'm thinking about not carrying comprehensive on this one, but maybe I will on my Jeep as I assume it's worth a little more than my Envoy, and it will be harder to replace if something happened.

I do own both vehicles, and I have liability set at 1000,000/300,000. Just don't know what to do. When I was getting a Progressive quote it said those things weren't recommended (comprehensive and collision).

The question is. What would it cost to replace? Do a cost analysis based on that. If the cost to cover is much more percentage wise than the value to replace then don't. If cost to cover is $60 per mo or so and the value of your vehicle is $10K plus then do it.

I used to have USAA, which is not available to everyone. I thought their rates were cheap.

For full coverage on my Civic (which includes comprehensive and collision), I was paying about $90 something a month. My wife had full coverage on her Cobalt and was paying $120 through Statefarm.

So, we get the Jeep, which of course we need full coverage on. I go to Geico's website and get a quote. Get this. For full coverage on the Jeep, and liability on both the Cobalt and Civic, we're paying about $130 a month. It'll actually be somewhat cheaper once we get the Cobalt fully registered/ titled under my wife's name. But, we saved big bucks going to Geico and switching two of the cars to liability (for the exact same coverage, USAA wanted about $100 more for six month premium).

I've been looking at State Farm and Progressive. I'm getting better rates here in Alabama with these two companies than I have been with Alfa with the same coverage. I also don't like having to pay $30 a year just to be able to buy insurance from Alfa. You have to be part of the federation to carry insurance with them.

So my Envoy is what I would call fair condition, and it has under 100,000 miles. Kelly Blue Book states it would value at approx. $5,000. I'm thinking about dropping collision for this vehicle. My Jeep is valued at around $12,000 so I will most definitely keep that coverage to the Jeep.

Really should consider upping your deductible to $1000 or $2000.... the savings in premiums alone will let you put that $$$$$ back in your pocket. no sense in filing a claim for less than $1000 ANYWAY....

This is the way to save $$$$$ in the long term.

anybody else notice Jeeps are really cheap on insurance? for instance:

I pay ~$80 a month for my 2013 JK, and ~$110 a month for my $3300, 312,000 mile, 01 F250 7.3

full coverage on both, 26 year old with an impeccable driving record.

hey at least I'm not young and dumb anymore! I used to pay $300 a month when I thought buying a 350Z at 18 was a good idea!

That is interesting. It must depend on where you live because my 2002 Jeep has a higher premium than my 2004 Envoy. Never had a wreck or ticket.

Depends on a lot of things, where you live, age, sex, married or single, cost of repairs in your area, credit score, NHTSA safety rating, mileage driven in a year, and on and on.

One coverage is different than the other so better think and analyze what you really need for your beloved car. Try to read more about auto insurance coverage characteristics and see what coverage really suits you best.

I am paying USAA $54.475 per month for full coverage on my LJ. Could the difference in our rates be due to ages, driving records, or traffic accident statistics in our different home locations?

I Always have comp and collision on all my vehicles. A few things to take into account for me personally. If I get hit by someone that has no insurance and I only have Liability then I am just screwed I get nothing less then taking the person to court which will cost more then the vehicle in some cases.

Comp and Collision on my vehicles gives me that piece of mind If I hit someone and my vehicle gets towed I would have to pay the tow and impound fees along with repairing my own vehicle. I am different then most as I work for a body shop so I have access and the knowledge to repair my own vehicle for a cheap price. also have access to tow drivers to pick up my vehicle. But I am not always in cali. so if something happened in Nv or Wa I would have to make more calls and figure it out that way.

I have had comp and coll on a 1990 toyota pick up. 93 and 94 hondas. I go by better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

stolen vehicle not comp call it a loss...

These are my reasons I carry comp and coll on all my vehicles I have 2 cars paid off both 04's ones a honda civic si 150k worth roughly 7 grand the other is a 04 chevy colorado with 54k on the odm worth 9 grand I rather not loss that Money for my mistake or someone elses mistakes...
