Cars not Jeeps

My wife wants a 06-08 Mustang..... GT or Shelby which ever is faster
What I'm wondering is gas mileage. I know some of you people have one, could you help me here. Plus it'll get her out of my Jeep.

you don't buy fast cars for gas mileage. If it is even a concern buy a honda.

I'd just like to know, OK ...............and late model sports cars seem to do good in the mpg department. Just a note, I'd never buy a honda.

oh in thought this thread was about people calling jeeps cars

everyone at i know makes sure to say CAR really loudly when they mean my jeep, and i of course say everytime its not a car its a jeep

anyway, im assuming the gas mileage will depend on what she does with it, if she accelerates like crazy just because she can and for fun it will probably suck, but if she drives it just like a regular car then it probably wont be that bad

EDIT: Too slow. They are right on target. Most V8 sports cars under 5.9Ls (4.6 mustangs, 5.7 GMs etc.) get very good HIGHWAY mpg if you keep your foot out of it, and drive slow. Dodges HEMIs are not known for MPG. No V8 sports car gets very good city mpg, it just drinks too much getting up to speed. On the highway though, you have 300+ hp pushing a 3,000 car at 65 mph. The darn engine is just putting along, sipping gas Put the foot down though, and start working on bankruptcy paperwork

Ford has never been known for gas mileage. Fords are always better than Dodge, but GMs usually get better MPG with more HP. GMs are 95% of the time faster than a ford anyway. I know this is going to start a big flame war with the mustang guys, but all you have to do is look on the web at numbers. The only "regular" "stock" ford that could beat a GM was the SUPERCHARGED 03-04 cobras, and even than its a drivers race over a Trans-Am / SS.

With that said, since GM is still building their new camaros, I would say your only bet over a POS mustang (yes I have driven them, you couldn't give me one for free..) is a GTO or a G8. The newer GTOs use the LS2, and the G8 uses the L76. I wouldn't drive one. They drink gas, and have GMs torque management BS which you need a tune to get rid of. Torque management is arguably GMs biggest mistake in a long time. Not to mention, the GTOs are based off of a platform that GMs Australian department built called Holden. The GTOs are notorious for their weak suspension components.

If it was was buying my girl a V8 muscle car.. Hmm. Tough call. The LS1 GTOs are REAL nice, if you are aware of the suspension down falls and plan to work on it. Obviously, the 98-2002 Trans Ams, formulas, z28s, and SSs with the LS1s would be my #1 pick. Six speeds run anywhere from 12.8s to 13.5s factory, and get 28mpg highway if you drive them nice and easy. Most 6 speeds run 13.3s to 13.5s depending on driver, some run faster due to GM putting LS6 intake manifolds on some in the later years due to a manifold shortage when they were changing engines. Or, you could always wait for the new Camaro and hope they dont run the LS2/L76 engine in it. Its not a bad engine, I just think they sacraficed power for MPG way too much on the new design compared to the Ls1s. Camaros and Trans ams with LS1s were REALLY under rated from the factory, do dont let that fool ya. Check out a good site, such as LS1tech.com or Ls1.com for real numbers. Long tube headers, high flow cat (or no cat), and a new ram-air lid, and those LS1s REALLY wake up and scream. I had a few of the LT1s myself, and drove a few LS1s at the track when I used to race. GM really did a good job with those cars...

On second note, you may want to give her a regular GT mustang, just in case a low 13, high 12 second street car from the factory is too much for her

Love mustangs, only ford I like. Like the fact they went back to the mach styling and dumped that faggy looking design they had for awhile.

We had an 05 GT Premuim Cp. with an automatic, Red on Red leather. I bought it for my wife right after they came out. Very sharp car loaded with all the options available. She put about 3000 miles on it in the first year & that included a trip from here in Tampa to New Orleans, mileage was around 22 mpg. if I remember correctly. Nice 3rd car but not nice enough. Traded it in 06'.

Thanks, my jeep is 15-17mpg my truck is 15-18mpg. So 22mpg is an improvement. AND its not a Honda.

Dude, you should get your wife one of these. This will smoke any Mustang or Camaro out there.

Gas mileage kinda blows though and I think it takes premium.

Here ya go I think this will solve the cornering problem. AND I think it gets better mileage than that other car.

And if you must get a mustang get the one that says Roush on it they get way better mileage than the rest.
