Cash for clunkers, what a joke

this has been a joke from the beginning, stupid idea.

Clunker Confusion: MPG Figures- Yahoo! Autos Article Page--

Quote:
"My wife just received a call from the sales manager saying that our clunker doesn't qualify anymore, and that we could either pay the extra $4,500 or return the new car (and get our old car back)," a car buyer wrote Tuesday on a message board at the Edmunds.com automotive Web site.
Quote:
Another car shopper emailed CNNMoney.com saying he went to the Environmental Protection Agency's fueleconomy.gov Web site on Saturday to double-check the fuel economy rating for his 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis. When he had visited previously, the car's combined city and highway fuel economy was rated at 18 miles per gallon, making it eligible for the program.

But on Saturday, he found something different: The fuel economy for his car had been raised to 19 mpg -- one mile per gallon over the maximum fuel-efficiency allowed under the Car Allowance Rebate System (aka Cash for Clunkers). As a result, he became ineligible for a trade-in credit worth up to $4,500.

The more government gets involved w/ private enterprise, the more it gets screwed up.

When are we ever going to learn?

Now they are reporting the program was so popular they are out of money so it is stopping. Said it was more popular than they planned. I say let people save all the gas they want, more for me to burn.

More proof that they don't understand economics.

Just like they don't understand that when you tax people's success, they're likely to give less success - they also don't seem to understand that when you put money in people's pockets, you'll get more of that behavior.

Each deal is 20 pages of documents that must be scanned and submitted individually through a government website that often doesn't work very well. They’ve sent in more than a hundred deals, cars they've already sold and about thirty have been rejected. Many of them were rejected because of a paperwork error. The rules of the program sound pretty simple, but the rulebook is at least a couple hundred pages long.
Bring your new car back in and get your old one......

oops, we put sodium silicate in the engine, hope that's not a problem.
