Chevy guys n girls?

I'm going to go take a look at a '79 K5 Blazer this week.
It has a 350 5.7L, a th350 transmission and a np203 t-case.
Hows the th350 and np203 strength wise? The axles will be overkill so I'm worried about the trans and mainly the t-case as being the weak link and the first thing to break.

Thanks,
-Matt

you mite want to either build the t350 up or up grade to a built 400.

i ran a gm 350 crate motor in a 79 chevy with a built T350 trans that i built up with new clutches and a 2400 stall and full rebuild and it worked great. I ran it through a few mud holes without any problems.

If i did it again i would of probally went with the 400.

350s never die. a factory turbo350 trans wont break under stock old school V8 power (which isn't much), but isnt going to last with a crate motor. A good BUILT turbo350 won't break, but a 400 would give you overdriver

Transfer case and front axles are usually the week link. The front axle should be a 10 bolt, which is not going to hold up to that kind of abuse, and those transfer cases are notorious for not lasting. The rear axle should be a 12 bolt, which is GREAT normally, but i doubt it will last with that abuse either.

id say built the trans, or toss in a built 400, swap the transfer case and the axles, and youd be good to go.

BTW distorted, thats a SWEET truck!!! there was a guy around here that had an 81 K1500 reg cab short bed. 350, built turbo350 trans, 6" suspension lift on 33s that I was going to buy for 700 bucks, but I ended up getting a hard top for the Jeep instead.

im swapping the axles, I've seen a more than a few 10 bolts break. I guess I'll swap in a np205 for the case and either build the transmission or swap it.
does anyone know any good gm sites besides CK5? (i want to figure out what np205 i need and how much the trans and t case swap will cost before I get this truck)

Thanks again for the help,
-Matt

and x's 2, that truck is badass

Ball joint front, ALL TIGHT!

He's asking $4500 I think I can get it lower.

How does the 700 and 208's hold up? I will be wheeling this only in the mud but since this will be a mud only rig it will get abused.

Rebuilt 350,headers, locker in the rear, 39" Boggers. but can fit 44" with no problem, 4 wheel disc brakes...15" 8-lug rims...
Runs tight, and straight, tires are loud, but I can drive it down the highway going 70 with 2 fingers on the wheel...even has a decent stereo, and 12" subwoofer

heres the rest of the ad. These axles will eventually find their way into my tj when I get a new DD and my rocks will be going under this.

so what does everyone think? good or bad deal
