Cigar smoking for a noobie

so i've dropped one bad habit (smoking cigarrettes) for another (smoking cigars). having only smoked a handful of cigars in my life, and not even knowing what kind they were, i'm pretty clueless. i went to my local tobacco shop, Old Virginia Tobacco Co., and asked the salesman to pick out a few mild ones for me, letting him know i am new to this whole thing, and didn't want to spend too much. so i came home with a montecristo ($7.50) and an avo ($10.75). i also bought a cutter, and already had a butane torch lighter. smoked the montecristo last night while watching carrier on pbs, and really enjoyed it. can't wait to try the avo.

so what does the rest of wrangler forum smoke?

First thing first... loose the lighter. Matches only for Cigars... I personally like milder cigars. I love all Blondes...haha... BUt lately i have really gotten into Cigarillos. Try some and find what you like. I like CAO and other Brazilian choices as well as Romeo y Julietas... Guve Acid Cigarillos a try. For real flavor give smoking a pipe a try...

Oh and keep your eyes peeled for "legal" cubans... apparently they are rolled from pre-embargo tobacco in dry storage since 1958. I here they are rediculously good...but are very strong.

I'm headed up to Canada for the opening week of Northern pike season next Friday...Cuba and Canada trade with eachother. Cuba gets the booze, and Canada gets the fine smokables

When it comes to cigars at the local smoke shops, I prefer the Ashton VSG (Virgin Sun-grown tobacco). They run between $5 and $14 a stick. They are very strong, but thats how I like my cigars. I've seen newbs puke at the shop from puffing a VSG, and I inhale mine.

10K fine for "importing" Cubans into the states.... Make sur eyou put them in your buddy's luggage.

funny you mention cubans. i have a trip to the bahamas coming up in june and i definitely plan on snagging a few cubanos, but i will probably just smoke them on the beach or onboard our cruise ship.

From a non-smoker, this is what I've been told also....only stick matches. I had some Cubans I was bringing home from Kuwait for my brother. Navy took them and probably smoked them. Oh well.
Now he is in Cuba but can't seem to get a hold of the real ones.

I've been spending 13.75 for Cohibas at Don Juan cigar Co.. A friend turned me on to Backwoods Mild and Wild cigars from Circle K. 8 to a pack for 5.45. They look like a Clint Eastwood dog turd cigar. One of the best smokes I ever had!

I smoked backwoods for a while...The Sweet and Aromatic variety I believe. Not too back for something you can get at the 7Eleven.

I had a Cuban Cohiba a few summers ago. It wasn't too bad, it was very light, not nearly as strong as I like my smokables.
