I remember these two getting into a similar debate; it didn't end well for them:

Human beings, in general, are left-brain dominant --- right-handed. It's a species wide norm.
There are 200+ known anomalies that can cause communication difficulties between the hemispheres, some manifesting themselves in perception abnormalities.

Based upon your responses here, we'll see who has any of these.

It would also be good to know whether responders are left or right-handed too as a secondary poll.
Has nothing to do with that, it's a visual error. We have a hard time with 2d images.

Empiricism can only be trusted in the absence of subjectivity.
How can we determine the purity of data?

It's all unindividuated process. Data implies measurement, which is an imposed construct. All there is is subjective perception. You are your CNS, and your CNS is the universe for all you know. However, if there is an objective reality you can contribute by throwing your own crappy perceptions on the heap, thus transforming the heap, that you perceive.

It doesn't switch direction. Its a sequence of 2d images that create the illusion of movement by using the silhouette of a familiar 3d shape. In order to determine direction there would have to be depth markers such as shadowing or textures. The shaded background and the shadow on the bottom create the illusion of space while the pure black silhouette forces your brain to fill in the missing information. That's why you can blink or lose focus for a second and it appears to switch direction as your brain re-evaluates what it is seeing.

So, does that mean that those of us who can see it going both directions use both sides of our brains equally and more efficiently? If so, then it sounds like we are, perhaps, more intelligent, more evolved.

Or are we just scatter brained?

Oooh look, something shiny!
