College Football Season

Its finally here!

I'd like to wish my Buckeyes a great season, and the rest of the Big Ten a "good luck with that." I'm hoping the Urban Meyer Era will bring the swagger back to the Horseshoe.

So how's it going to go this year? Who are you supporting? Show your pride!

I was born and raised in the Buckeye, and grew up with Woody. When he was fired for being such an ass, thats when I woke up and realized the flaws in hero worship. Since then I haven't even watched a college football game, and probably never will. I didn't get burned, I just saw the light. If more people would come to terms with the fact that big time college football is just a self serving organization, that somehow is able to suck fans into that culture, the cover up at Penn State would have never happened. The semi-sick rabid fan culture would not have existed, thereby keeping the priorities of student athletic programs in perspective. I know my view is not a popular view with the so called college football fan base/culture, but I know I am not in the minority of the general populace. But hey, lets be honest,, do you really give a darn if OSU even fields a team?

While I understand and respect your opinion, perhaps your reply should be on the Things You Hate thread, not the one asking about school pride.

And to answer your your question, yes, I do. Am I going to put money on a game or throw a fit if they lose? No. I'm just going to enjoy following the ups and downs of a season of contests between teams, and the fellowship of fans who love the game.

I grew up in the south as a lifelong 'bama fan. I didn't go to school there, though. I live in Missouri now, so Mizzou's move to the SEC has me pretty excited to be able to make the drive to a few games. It'll be fun to watch Mizzou learn the hard way how fast SEC football moves, lol.

Only a Buckeye fan would know that. We'll let them wonder what it means.

Yup!

Not to go all hero-worship or anything, but Urban started the season right. Let's hope it's a sign of future success and not just an easy season opener. I had to work and missed the game, but kept updated throughout on the Buckeye iPhone app.

True story. The Horseshoe is so full of energy on game day. I haven't been to the Big House for that game, but I can only imagine how cool it must be.

Gamecocks and Buckeyes both had a great day!

Tressel was a breath of fresh air after Cooper, who was coach when I was at OSU. The Horseshoe had plenty of seats open when he was in charge, and his lack of respect for The Game was disappointing - he said it was a game like every other. Tressel brought the pride back, but I'm pretty disappointed that he damaged it.

First 2 times I saw Tress on the sidelines I was rooting against him. I also like Marshall University because it's very close to my hometown. They were Div II championship games. Both decided on a last second field goals. 1 yr went to Marshall, the other yr went to Youngstown St.

4/5 top 5 teams pulled 40+ points. Only one pulled 50+ points.

The slacker team could of been predicted.

Oh yah RETURN OF THE QUACK!

I am also a fan of 2 schools. I've been a Buckeye fan and a Thundering Herd fan all of my life. I grew up about 30 minutes from Marshall University. For a long time they were Div II (what ever that is called now) so it was easy to have a team from Div I and a team from Div II. I now live about 45 miinutes from the Horseshoe. I still root for both teams everyweekend. They have played each other. You just sit back and enjoy the game. GO BUCKS!!!! GO HERD!!!

Copied from a Marshall U site on facebook:

Simply put, if you support WVU and you aren't ashamed at the fact that chants of "We Want a Plane Crash" erupt in the stadium, then you are absolutely no better than the pieces of trash who thought it was funny to chant.

It's the casual "good" Mountaineer fans who often get lumped in unfairly with the belligerent idiots, but it's the deafening silence from you all that allows shit like this to happen. So in my mind, you're really no better then the beer can-throwing abusive pricks who pack into that stadium parking lot. Every time another one of these incidents occur, you only help fuel the perception that it is the vast majority of Mountaineer fans who are like this instead of a very vocal and very destructive minority.

Whether it is Marshall being mocked for arguably the biggest tragedy in the history of American team sports, LSU for the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, WVU prove week in and week out that they deserve every ounce of scorn and embarrassment heaped upon them. Unfortunately, because WVU is the state's top school, that stigma is associated with everyone in the state regardless of college affiliation.

I reiterate my previous call for a complete ceasing of sporting activities between Marshall and WVU. I'd rather the Herd travel the country getting smoked 75-0 by the top teams in America year after year tha.n ever give a dollar of support to a university with such a gutless and classless fan base.

I used to be a casual Mountaineer fan and would root for them against whoever they played (aside from Marshall), but over the past few years I've grown more and more to detest that university and everything associated with it. Today's shameful behavior is the icing on the cake. Whatever casual attachment I still had as a sporting fan to the Mountaineers is now irrevocably severed. Done. Finished. Never again." I will all ways be a herd fan we have class and respect .were still gonna have a great season .go herd
