So I went to the evil, horrible, poverty creating Satan beast that is Wally the other day and noticed something new.

A few weeks age they brought in the Sig 556 AR photon laser gun, which I found a lil odd but shrugged off. Now they have a Colt AR sitting right next to it, 1097$ (didn't catch which model #). Wierd, right? Seeing how wally sells hunting rifles, but OK, I have a "varmint" gun too, so while a stretch I do get it. Then I go to the boolit cabinet, and after flagging down someone older than any of my deceased grandparents, picked up some white box frangible rounds.

So, in summary, I can go to the local Wally, buy a Colt AR, and load it with frangible rounds. For varmint hunting. Buying from the nephew of Methusila.

I'm as pro gun as they come, but 2 things stuck out at me:
Who is trying to take anything away? They are easier to get than ever before.
And
Should you be able to so easily procure such firepower, or should it be at a more fitting environment with actual professionals, like FL gun shop?

Also, I wish I had brought more $$$ with me, lol. =)

An AR is just a semi auto rifle. No different than most hunting rifles. What exactly about it screams "firepower" to you? The evil black rifle?

edit: like most other hunting rifles but in a weaker caliber...

Technically they aren't assault rifles since they have no provisions for burst or auto fire. They're nothing more than semi-auto weapons, and semi-auto weapons aren't being taken away. I know your question is loaded and that you're looking for someone to come in here and challenge your opinions about gun control laws, but it's probably not going to happen.

Also just to point out that there would have to be an FFL holder at Walmart in order to sell you the rifle anyways. So at Walmart or at a gun shop makes no difference. The process is the same.

it's a Colt 6920... I picked one up too. Nice rifle. Decent price. Win win...

The Walmarts in Colorado have been selling them for awhile now. And yes... the process of buying one at Walmart is the same process as buying it from any other gun store. You still have to fill out the Form 4473 and get the background check done. It's not like they are displaying them in front by the RedBull.

Oh I certainly understand you will still be going through the process of purchase, with Grandpa Jones walking you along.

My questions was, should you be able to buy hemmoroid creme, milk, a book, a new dvd player, cat food, frangible rounds, and an AR in the same place. With someone very unfamiliar with gun laws selling it (why they won't sell pistols, fyi). I mean they won't sell a Playboy or unedited CD.

Frangible rounds are not typical hunting rounds. I actually don't know of anyone who hunts with frangibles. The AR platform isn't any more dangerous than a sharp stick, but is easily adapted to a more serious role.

Ever heard of the slide fire stock? You may wanna rethink that semi auto comment and yes, I think frangible rounds are more serious than fmj or hp as they can't be removed. I think it should all be available, I just have no faith in the associates ability to sell to the right people.

Slide Fire is still one trigger pull = 1 round. Anyone serious about killing as many people as accurately as possible isn't even going to use full auto anyways. It just wastes ammo. Close quarters maybe use burst. But for accuracy a pro will use semi auto. Full auto is for suppression and Hollywood.

CQB is ALWAYS semi, never burst. Burst is for cover fire and Hollywood, that's it.

And BlueRidge, the SlideFire stock doesn't alter the weapon in ANY way to fire burst or auto, it alters the HUMAN firing it and allows a rapid succession of trigger pulls. Watch some YouTube videos of bump firing a semi auto, it works the same way.

Before someone calls it an "asault rifle", AR stands for Armalite Rifle (the company that designed it.) My SCAR 17 is a different story.

The model, as mentioned above, is the Colt LE6920. I mention the LE, because at one time, Colt made another model of 6920 called SP6920.

I'm impressed.
Rarely are so many lightning-rods for heated debate condensed into such a succint thread.
Equally impressive is the restraint being shown by so many who refuse to take the bait.
Kudos to all.

Brief hyjack:
Im planning to trade in my Springfield Loaded .45 that is wonderful but just too pretty for daily carry.
Does anybody know if the Kimber Pro Carry aluminum frame will hold up to Mike McNetts
"Double Tap 185gr defense round"?

ah... gotcha. I've seen a few LEOs come in my buddies gun shop with 9mm SBR select fire Colts. I'd love to have one of those little guys. Throw the EVO9 on it and run some 147gr through it.... all smiles

For sheer hurting people purposes, my mossberg 935 would shame an AR. But, it's not black and doesn't look scary so it's probably ok to sell at Walmart.
Yep, I bit

As far as the frangible rounds, they are generally for target shoot. A lot of indoor ranges require them to lessen the damage to the stell backstops.

BlueRidge, I often come down on your side in many of the arguments you get involved in, but seeing you post about limiting access to firearms simply because it's Wal-Mart, and then reading your signature... I find it a bit ridiculous.

Lol.

I wasn't asking from a legal or allowed position. More that I find it odd a place that fires employees for having a gun in their vehicle on campus is selling these items, that seems hypocritical to me. Also I'm not sure I have faith in their typical employee to sell guns.

Guess I'm not conveying my question properly, so we'll just leave it at that. BTW, they are Modern Sporting Rifles now.

Thanks Sparky, I didn't think about it in that light (I don't frequent indoor ranges).
