Methane (pronounced /ˈmɛθeɪn/ or /ˈmiːθeɪn/) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CH4. It is the simplest alkane, the main component of natural gas, and probably[citation needed] the most abundant organic compound on earth. The relative abundance of methane makes it an attractive fuel. However, because it is a gas at normal conditions, methane is difficult to transport from its source.

Methane is a relatively potent greenhouse gas. The concentration of methane in the Earth's atmosphere in 1998, expressed as a mole fraction, was 1745 nmol/mol (parts per billion, ppb), up from 700 nmol/mol in 1750. By 2008, however, global methane levels, which had stayed mostly flat since 1998, had risen to 1800 nmol/mol.[3]

Also, methane is prominently produced by cows. Mostly through burping, but some through passing gas also.

How in the world do you measure atmospheric concentrations of methane gas in the 17 century?

The Flying Tigers, of World War II fame, fought their first action against the Japanese on December 20, 1941. Twelve days AFTER pearl Harbor was attacked. One of the pilots, Charles Older, went on to be a judge in California. He presided over the trials of Charles Manson and his followers.

Through bubbles left in ice that was formed at that time. Ice from North or South poles will work 😉

I guess this happened to someone in 1965. He blacked out, and the last thing he remembered was the saliva on his tongue boiling.

In regards to bearded dragons
Bobbing the head rapidly and a slightly curved tail tip show aggressiveness, while circular movements of the arms like waving show submission. They do ritualistic sparring matches with two bearded dragons circling each other, flat to the ground, beards and tails up and out, while biting each other’s tails. Usually no damage is done. Some owners report they can mimic this behavior patterns and get a similar response from their dragons, to the point of even maintaining eye contact.

P's and Q's....I had learned that it was used to warn new type setters when type was set by hand, one letter at a time. In the tray that held the type, lower case P & Q were right next to each other and a lower case "p"looked very much like an upside down "q" and vice versa. Thus the warning.

I thought it originated before that, related to minding your pints and quarts when out drinking. Dunno if true though.

Armored knights raised their visors to identify themselves when they rode past their king. This custom has become the modern military salute.

But not when out drinking, when recording drinks out (as a bartender). At the end of the night they had to record quarts and pints served, and you don't wanna get em backwards!

Or so I have heard.

Fact: Missouri issued an emancipation proclamation Aug 30, 1861 - years before Lincolns. It was issued by John Freemont - whom was appointed to Commander of the Western Department by Lincoln - and has become known as Freemont's Proclamation to history. It ordered all slaves in Missouri "Free Forever", but was done without Lincolns knowledge. Realizing a free Missouri would no longer field an army for the north, Commander Freemont was ordered by Lincoln to amend his proclomation to only apply to slaves actively aiding or owned by those aiding the "rebellion", a federal law already existing (Confiscation Act - and all the 2 year later Emacipation Proclamation said). When he refused, Lincoln had him replaced; his replacement promptly repealed the proclomation in its entirety, once again making Missouri a slave state. Missouri slaves were not freed (again) until the passage of the 13th Amendment.

After the Emancipation Proclamation was passed (federally), Useless Grant had his wife visit him as he engaged the State of Virginia in aggression. She brought 2 servants, and when they entered VA federal law freed them. The Grants, however, failed to recognize federal law and returned with slaves in tow to Pennsylvania.
