Useless fact #540

Kangaroo farts are Hydrogen...not methane
Bio-engineers are working to infuse the kangaroo rumination bacteria into cattle in an effort to reduce methane bi-product since methane is 10x more harmful to ozone than carbon-monoxide.

There's something for you to chat about at the water cooler.

It takes 3,000 cows to supply the NFL with enough leather for a year's supply of footballs.

Baseballs contain 108 double stitches and are all hand sown. They weigh 5.5oz and are 9" in circumference.

In 1864 a group of Yankee soldiers were playing baseball in TX while at camp. As they played on, some Confederates raiders happened upon the camp. Knowing they couldn't overpower the much larger force, they resorted to more unconventional tactics. Waiting in the crops beyond the field, they watched silently - then when a long drive to the outfield gapped the fielders, a young man in gray came sprinting onto the field, snatched up the baseball, and just as quickly disappeared back into the crops.

Being the only ball in a couple hundred miles at least, the game was indefinetly postponed.

Since 1978, 37 people have died by Vending Machine's falling on them. 13 people are killed annually. All this while trying to shake merchandise out of them.

1978 was 35 years ago. An average of 13 a year would total 455 deaths. How'd you come up with 37?

Fun Fact: The bacteria responsible for leprosy grows naturally only on the skin of humans and armadillos. You can catch leprosy from eating armadillos.

WWII fighter pilots in the South Pacific armed their airplanes while stationed with .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measuring 27 feet before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, he went through "the whole 9 yards", hence the term

That explains why all those Armadillo road kills are just left in the middle of the road!

Firehouses have circular stairways originating from the old days when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases.

A coworker shattered his ankle while moving one. It fell toward him and he luckily twisted himself and leaned away. It would have killed him. He still has pins and a limp. He works for a soda company too.
