The Appalachian Trail became official in the 70s (73 iirc).

It was 2,180 miles but was recently lengthened 1 mile. It runs from North Georgia to Maine, and can be traveled in about 120 days. Hikers are commonly referred to by their intent: local hikers, or sectional hikers, only do partial sections while through-hikers take it all in one trip. Sectional hikers are asked to give right of way on campsites to through-hikers.

There is a type of magic on the trail, as many know, called trail magic. This may be a roll of toilet paper handed to you, a cold beer in a creek when you pass, or a local cooking flank steaks. It is a very magical thing, and required of all AT hikers.

No, and my teeth sure are getting long. I sure would like to, but so far have only been able to do a few sections. I hope to do AT LEAST the PA/VA border south, roughly half, in a single shot. Hoping for year after this, maybe.

I am actually sitting about a 1/4mile from it right now. Lol, I love my "office". Shenandoah behind me, Rockfish in front. Waiting on a delivery man.

Statues in parks: If the horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

not a fact

snopes.com: Statue Code

I've seen statues of Washington on horseback, with one of the horse's front leg in the air. He definitely did not die of a battle wound.

I believe that applies to the statues in Gettysburg for sure. They will tell you this as you go on the tours of the battlefield.

Powdered non-dairy creamer, when suspended in the air, is incredibly flammable. Perhaps even more so than flour or rice dust.

So Michael Jackson, Seth Macfarlene, and Mark Wahlberg were like 10 minutes away from dying on 9/11? Interesting

There are over 100 native tree species in Great Smokey Mountains Nat Park, compared to some 85 in the whole of Europe. This is because of the difference in mountain orientation.

When the last ice age happened, the northern trees, plants, and animals were forced south. Because the Alps and her cousin mountains run east to west, these species literally had their backs to the wall, and failing to adapt many went extinct. In the American east, the north south orientation of the Appalachians allowed the different forms of life to run south, through the river laden valleys with loomy soil, as far as the ice pushed. As it receeded, they followed it back north. Plants like the rhododendron are just recently reaching their original habitat, reminding us that it was only moments ago in Earth time that the ice age ended.

When can the U.S. get rid of them? Not soon enough in my book.

I think that may be a bad idea, nickels are worth less than the material costs, let alone machining. If we did away with pennies we would (I presume) need more nickels, at a dead loss production cost.

Your money can't cost more than itself, lol. That just doesn't work.

And I snuck a fact in. Huzzah!

Off topic but I agree completely. Of course I would like to see eventually eradicate physical currency and go with digital only.

Don't pennies also cost more?

True, true.

In 1837 pennies were 100% copper. They now contain 2.5%.
In 1866 nickels were 75% copper, 25% nickel. They still are.

And pennies are a worse exchange, I'm 2 for 2 being wrong tonight, lol. It would be better to make more nickels and no pennies, % of cost to value wise.

It would be very hard to wipe your butt with a credit card when inflation goes through the roof.

No no no. Because once you and everyone else in this nation realizes that your money has no value, then it's worthless. That's why people push for the gold standard again,

That dollar bill, is probably worth $.1. But because we have substituted monetary value for that dollar, we use it for buying and trading goods.

Fine point sir.

My concern and desire to return to ANY standard is to stabalize the economy and prevent politcal leaders and appointees from determining circulation of currency (bailouts).

Let's get back on topic...

Hermaphroditic flatworms having a mating ritual called "penis fencing." They duel with two-headed dagger like projections. The winner is the flatworm who pierces and inseminates first. This flatworm is considered the father. The loser will be the mother and bear the offspring.
