I've heard that before. I think there was more to deal but rights to Oswald was the stipulation. Pretty cool.

Lol. 148% of people agree.

There are 7 common variants of hickory tree in the world. The name comes from the Powhatan tribes of Virginia, and they can be seen in greatest concentration in Appalachia. The wood is renowned for it's qualities when smoking food, and recently has been crossed with the southern pecan tree, another fine smoking wood, to make the hican tree.

On Jan 8 1835 the US Govt became 100% debt free. This was accomplished by first closing the federal bank, then selling massive amounts of western land to generate revenue sufficient to pay off the existing debt, in addition to cutting nearly every spending authorization, including funding for highways. Andrew Jackson was the architect. It lasted only one year, the states had become enthused with selling land and a bubble had been created. When the govt tried to limit it by mandating land sales be in gold or silver, the bubble crashed. The Govt was 'forced' to deficet spend again, and has never come close to living within its means since.

if you google "completely useless facts" the first sentence you see is the fact about the word "queue."

In aviation, the term "Ditching" was invented by British pilots who went down in the English Channel(nicknamed the Ditch by the British)

The Wild Turkey was Benjamin Franklins reccomendation for Americas National mascot. He found it more noble than the Eagle, in part due to a misconception of the time. He found the turkey a much more honest bird, always earning it's food by its quick and crafty movements. While that's true, the eagle was generally thought of as an easily scared bird at that time, and was mistaken for a theif. Often when hunting an eagle will wander into the territory of another smaller bird, which attempts to escort the eagle out of its territory. The eagle will appear to be fleeing from the smaller bird, when in fact it actually does not care one bit about the trailing aggressor. The smaller bird simply follows the eagle, as if somehow effecting it. As it was hunting, the eagle will commonly have prey in its talons. It is easy to see how 18th century bird observers could mistake the scene for an eagle stealing lunch, or being chased away, which is almost certainly never the case.

2500 lefties die each year using products designed for righties.

Bats always turn left when exiting a cave.

Coca-Cola was originally green.

The Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia, has twice as many bathrooms as is necessary. When it was built in the 1940s, the state of Virginia still had segregation laws requiring separate toilet facilities for blacks and whites.

Cocacola, since so many are interested in its history, was created by John Pemberton. He was a Confederate Veteran, and was seriously wounded at the battle of Columbus, recieving a slash across his chest. Due to his wound, he became reliant on morphine. This led him to search for an elixor to help. He began brewing large kettles in his yard, finally discovering cocacola, which was then called Pembertons French Wine Cola. It was later changed to cocacola by Willis Venable, a drugist hired by Pemberton after Atlanta passed "temperance" laws regulating alcohol. It was during their modification of the original formula that tonic water was used instead of flat water, resulting in the first bubbly coke. In 1887 Pemberton sold the formula, and 8 years later it was bottled for the first time. Soon after it went to international production, and has steam rolled ever since.

Batteries, or a series of cells lined up in an orginized fashion, were dubbed so by Benjamin Franklin, due to their likeness to an artillary battery, with all its guns lined up in an orginized fashion, just like the cells are.

In the late 1700s in Philly, there was a wax shortage which increased the cost of candles dramatically. Dr Franklin had a solution, to fire all militia cannons in the city at sunrise. This would, he surmised, wake all citizens to the day and prevent them from being able to stay up too late, thus preventing unnessesary burning of candles at night, lowering demand and bringing prices back into line.
He almost certainly would have been bothered by the early morning cannons, as he typically stayed in the pubs talking business until the wee hours.

Hmm, let me contribute. I've got a lot of random facts.

Coke was originally green in color.

Coke actually had cocain in it.

Gold fish have a longer memory than 30 seconds(contrary to popular belief)

There have been 7 deaths in the search for gold in the "money pit" off of Nova Scotia.

The search started in the 1700s, there still to this day hasn't been any treasure found.

Look up the similarities between JFK and Abe Lincoln and tell me how blown your mind is.

There is a nebula in space that is shaped like a horse head. It's called horse head nebula.

My jeep has enough miles to have driven to the moon. I'm currently on the way back.

If you mix baking soda and vinegar, it fizzes and reacts. If you "pour" the contents of the cup onto a candle, the candle will then be extinguished. This is due to to the carbon dioxide that the reaction produces.

Giraffes sleep very little every day. Usually in 10 min. Increments during the day.

The grooves on a golf club out back spin on the golf ball and help keep it under control.

The shoes "sperrys" are based on the bottom of an frogs foot.

Nipples are the part that extends from the breast. It's the areola that is the area of darker skin.

In older style light bulbs, the thing that lights up is called the filament. The filament is made of tungsten.

If you look at the periodic table of elements, you'll notice some make no since according to their English name. This is because it was discovered earlier and named in Latin.

Il post more later if I feel like it. Lol I've got plenty more.

GA is the largest state east of the mississippi river, has 157 counties, and is one of the few states to have mountains, piedmont, plains, marsh, swamp, coastline, and forests. It was founded by James Oglethorpe, and many imprisoned in England were brought over to establish it. The primary purpose was to protect the Carolinas from Spanish and Indian threats to the south. It is also the site of the first US goldrush, in Dahlonaga. It is alleged to contain the largest piece of exposed granite in the world, Stone Mountain, which has a carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert Lee, and Thos. J. Jackson on horseback. It is the largest bas-relief carving in the world, covering some 3 acres.

Attachment 189718

As legend has it, when the yankees got to stone mountain they were forced to stop. It seems a lone rebel had climbed to the top, and kept throwing rocks and hurling insults at the yankees. Sherman, in charge of the yankee force, sent 2 men to dispatch the rebel. Shortly later, they were seen being thrown off Stone Mountain, and the barrage continued. Infuriated, Sherman sent a dozen men. But they, too, were seen shortly after being thrown from the top, and the rebel barrage again resumed. Sherman had had enough, so he sent 100 men to the top. After a short while, all hell broke loose atop Stone Mountain, and the screams and gunfire could be heard for miles. After some time, a silence fell on the mountain, and just as the yankees were about to celebrate, that lone rebel walked up to the edge and continued his insults and rock throwing. Sherman was ready to send the whole company, when just then a lone yankee soldier, badly bloodied and half dead, stumbled down the trail. "Sir, sir, stop sending men! It's a trap!", he exclaimed, "There are 2 of em up there!" The yankees, seeing the futility, went around.

Lewis Grizzard always told it better.
