Been in a country mood lately. I like all the old country singers but a band that I've been into lately is Whiskeytown.

You should also give a listen to (if you haven't alreadY) : Ryan Adams (was in Whiskeytown), Wilco, Old97s, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, and the Jayhawks.

I agree with whoever it was above saying country ain't country. Too much of it is re-badged pop sung by a face who can sell records. I still like some of the ones who have shown they have what it takes.

I'm really getting into Jason Aldean. Really loving his duet with Kelly Clarkson...love me a curvy woman!

HUGE Chesney fan. As another Parrothead, I think, when the time comes, he's set up to carry the torch. I hope it's not for many more years, though.

Tim McGraw. Saw him twice on his Dancehall Doctors tour. His best album with Set This Circus Down being a close second. Awesome show, especially the final one in Greeneville, SC.

Brad Paisley. Great writer, excellent picker and a fellow Hillbilly.

I like Big and Rich because of their passion for music and the refusal to be pigeon holed as a specific genre. Too bad the released songs pale in comparison to the deeper cuts.

Some others are Jerry Douglas (Hendrix of the Dobro), Junior Brown, Toby Keith, some of the less controversial David Alan Coe, classic Reba, classic Alabama, Waylon Jennings, Shooter Jennings, Cash, WILLIE, Mongomery/Gentry.....

I'm a music lover, sorry.

Meant to post this with the reply above. Gotta be my favorite B$R song. Great message and it struck me personally the first time I heard it because it's the way I live my life.

Very solid recommendation. Resulted in a "Buy Album."

We've drifted from straight country so I'd have to add in:
  1. Shooter Jennings
  2. Hank III
  3. Drive-By-Truckers

No excuse sonny boy lol......I'm only kidding. Best thing you can do to get a feel for the older gold stuff right now is Jamey Johnson. The stuff he makes mimics the country of the late 70's and early 80's. If you can dig that you will enjoy the older stuff as well.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this guy...Jamey Johnson

He's one of a few newer artists bringing that old twangy country sound back to modern country music.

Also a big fan of Montgomery Gentry, Zac Brown, Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, meh...I could go on and on.

Edit: nm...just noticed Jamey Johnson was FINALLY mentioned a couple posts up. lol

No current favorite song but all time favorite artist is George Strait. Otherwise, I'm more old school country. Not real impressed with the majority of new singers. A few really good ones though like Jason Aldeen, Stoney Larue and a few others.
