When Joe opened his shop I went to Home Depot and bought a 10-3 extension cord with twist lock cord caps on it. I then cut the female end off and installed a four square box to install the welder plug in. It has worked great for 3 years and gives him plenty of room to move the welder around the shop. The cord was not that expensive. BTW romex is not a safe cord.

It may not be worded as eloquently as a code book would explain, but yes your brain is fried.

We use extension cords for welders here at work, but they are very heavy duty cords. I would build a better cord. Buy the wire and the ends so it isn't just spliced and taped together. If you are going to go through all that trouble...why not just wire in a 220 outlet. It is really quite simple.

No, I've been stuck in Vegas for a while now. I'll be there till Jan-Feb now. This is my first weekend back in a couple of weeks.
