My FT-2800M ham radio was giving me issues so I decided to get rid of it. I offered it up aon a popular had radio site for trade or sale and listed what was wrong. I did not tell a lie. It actually works great, just a display problem. So, this guy responds from just up in NC and after sending some pics we agreed to a deal. He gets my radio and sends me an HT. He got my radio but decided he would wait until he ran it before sending my the HT. Okay, not the deal we agreed to, but I'm patient. I do have his address and call sign. I haven't heard from him in a week or received the radio, even with threatening emails. Can't decide what to do next, call local PD, report him to the FCC for poor conduct as a radio operator (if possible), trashing him on QRZ. I would prefer he just send me the HT and be done with it but my hand is being forced.
This happened to me before, we quite alot of research on the phone and online, I was able to find his name, his dads name, where he worked, where he lived and a whole lot more about him including a picture of him at a Star Trek convention!
I sent all this to him in an email and i got my part 3 days later,
This is why I only buy and sell equipment face to face or on ebay. Cash on the barrel head up front or they don't get my radio. I've had good luck on ebay dealing with other traders with a few hundred positive feedbacks or more.
I have traded and bought and sold ham gear before, mostly through ebay or on the QRZ forum. Most hams are good to deal with so I feel I can be trusting. There are bad apples, but as many times as I have dealt with hams, most are honest. Part of the hobby I think. If I don't hear from him by monday I'll call the local PD.
Well it is kinda hard to send money to get an item if you require the itme first and vice versa you cant send the item till you get the money. There will always be a person to screw you if they can. But maybe this guy is running late.
