I saw the ad. I read the bill (here's the link). Is that enough research for you?

And what stands is: what McCain's ad says is fundamentally untrue. I don't watch the major broadcast media (because I like actual news in my news, not infotainment and car chases shown as news), so I haven't seen how it's playing there. If they're covering it, I'm surprised.

Economics is my hobby. I read extensively on it. I understand policy points, I follow the debates. I watched Alan Greenspan for years as he pushed the policies that got us where we are, including the raiding of the Social Security Trust Fund and the subsequent massive build-up of debt.

I believe this video has "touched" quite a few people here! I also believe this is where the large differences of opinion stem from, one of the great things that make us AMERICANS!

MoSo, I am glad you do your research, and you are entitled to your opinion. As I said before, I am not trying to push views on people, just stating mine and my personal issues with the current state of affairs socially/politically. I still do not see how signing/supporting a bill that offers sex ed of ANY kind to a kindergartner, short of a 10 second speech on "Don't let anyone touch you there" is beneficial. If the bill had stayed with the original grade 6+ I don't think anyone would have anything to say about it. With that said, we should leave this thread to what it was intended, and start a new one if you would like to continue this discussion

CCain, you are absolutely right, sorry bud. That video is a very touching video, and has been going around on a lot of "right wing friendly" websites lately. Makes me miss, and appreciate, some of my buds over seas even more. My best bud is coming home in a few days though, so that makes me feel a little better.

Guys, there's no need to delete posts or curb your opinions. I think what got to Chris is the overlooking of how poignant the video is. These are Chris' words..... he is one of countless thousands who came home no longer whole, either mentally or physically. He could have easily been a Vietnam Veteran, the message should have still struck a cord deep in every American's heart.

These are our boys and regardless of who he's voting for or campaigning for the moment he turned and his prosthetic became visible anyone watching should have gasped and choked back a tear for what he's lost and what he gave.

We all owe our Vets a great debt of gratitude.

Whats new about that raiding of SS, FDR did it from day one of the start of social security, you don't think it was an accident that the age to collect was set at 15 YEARS past the high average survival rate of the normal worker, remember it was mostly male, factory workers and few women worked. They saw it as a way to collect a big tax and only have to pay out a small percentage to those rare individuals who managed to live long enough to collect it. Even if you were lucky enough to get that first check the length of time you lived to collect any additional checks went downhill fast. None of the male members of my family ever lived long enough to collect, NONE, on either side of my family.
If that fund had been untouchable and used to say provide loans that collected interest and neither congress or the senate could get at it it would be HUGE today. This government has been mismanaged for the last 200+ years with mostly thieves going into office.
