Today we honor not only the soldiers and civilians who fought bravely on this day but also those who died during the attack.

I think the greatest recent generations were either the WW1 or the WW2 generations. My grandparents worked hard all their lives using ingenuity and resourcefulness to get through the great depression. My parents generation also worked hard all their lives reaping the rewards of the rebound of this country and the boom in technology.

It seems that generations since then have a sense of entitlement & complain a LOT! They claim they are victims & sue everybody they can. There is a lack of self-respect and respect for others.

I've worked hard all my life (starting at 13) but have not had to endure nearly the hardships of my previous generations.

We can learn a lot from history. Not just military history, but from the last of the hard-working generations. I just wish they were still around to teach me more about getting through the tough times.

My son's high school principal couldn't understand why I called having a hissy fit a few years ago when the Japanese club had their "Japanese Christmas Celebration" on Dec. 7th........ I'm the daughter of a WWII vet, grand daughter of a WWI vet and veteran married to a veteran.......... I almost lost my mind, and the man was just absolutely clueless as to why I would be so annoyed by the timing of the whole celebration....

you have to remember that some people just don't get it. And then again some people like yourself do get it and let the ones that don't, know what it's all about.

thank you

I'm stuck between AYFKM & forgive and forget. Forgive & forget leads to a more tranquil stream. AYFKM leads to not fogetting history dare it repeat itself.

What a pickle. And I wasn't even riding my motorsickle.

Just curious, did they go ahead with the celebration on our Pearl Harbor Day? And what was the reason they had to have it on that particular day I wonder? I am constantly reminded of the stupidity, arrogance and thoughtlessness that some people are capable of.

There was a time it was a branch of the Army. I think it's time to bring back the old Army Air Service.

I regret not going there the last time I was in Hawaii... we intended to, but ended up spending much of our time on the other side of the island and just walking around our hotel on Waikiki Beach.

We did get to see it while flying over...but it wasn't near as powerful as it would have been to actually see it up close and personal. I think I did check it out on Google Earth though before...just pulling up photos of it and such.

Yes, they did have it. Yes, I did give the principal an earful. His reasoning was that that was the only time the teacher had for it due to scheduling conflicts. Insensitive to say the least... But I'll get to find out if it continues to be a problem in a few years when youngest son starts studying Japanese. I have no problem with them having the celebration, just that it was rude and unnecessary to have it on Pearl Harbor Day. Both my boys love all things Japanese, and my brother is married to a Japanese woman whose parents worked for the U.S. government during WWII in Hawaii.....

I'll admit it was a pretty ballsy move by the Japanese but in the end they got what was coming to them.

Never forget!

That's too bad. I thought the title "NIP in the air" was quite clever.

Political Correctness has turned the world into a bunch of whiney victims who will sue you at the drop of a hat because their feelings were hurt by something you said. Two things:
1) Life isn't fair... so get over it.
2) Sometimes, the truth hurts... get over it.

And if you can't get over it, buy a ladder & then get over it.

In 1980, when I was in 9th grade. Our world history teacher had us all design war posters. Posters like the typical propoganda posters the govt would post during times of conflict. A couple examples that many people will recognize are; "loose lips sink ships" & "kill a commie for your mommie."

I wonder what would happen to a teacher in this mamby-pamby day and age if they assigned the same work to our kids?

I think that our lack of use of strong words is only making us weaker. Pretty soon, all of the history books will call the Holocaust of the Jews in WW2 an "ethnic cleansing." Ethnic cleansing? That sounds like a product one would use to clean the Jerry Curl out your afro! An unbelievable number of Jewish people and others were rounded up, families separated, tortured, starved, forced to work against their will for their enemy and either brutally killed or euthanized (that's locked in a room with poison gas until they terminate/die).

And by the way, dictionarydotcom defines holocaust as:
–noun
1. a great or complete devastation or destruction, esp. by fire.
2. a sacrifice completely consumed by fire; burnt offering.
3. ( usually initial capital letter ) the systematic mass slaughter of European Jews in Nazi concentration camps during World War II (usually prec. by the ).
4. any mass slaughter or reckless destruction of life.

The Clinton era liberal PC movement came and went as far as I'm concerned. As a white, anglo saxon, protestant male living in the USA, I am bombarded daily with political uncorrectness and no one gives a rip.
I call 'em as I see 'em.

That must not have been an easy time for the parents back then. I think America screwed the Japanese after the attack. I have been to Manzanar out here in California which was an internment camp for the Japanese people. We had others around the country but this one was very large from what I got out of the museum that is there now. It was just a bad time for many people for many years to say the least.

It's deemed acceptable to call a guy from Britain a Brit, a guy from Australia an Aussie but refer to a guy from Pakistan as a Paki and that's regarded as being racist.

So much for equality.

And regards building a Mosque at Ground Zero, that make my blood boil and I'm not even from the USA. I have visited Ground Zero since the 9/11 attacks and it was the most spine tingling feeling I have ever experienced.

I agree. I've been there and gotten into it with a guy trying to sell pictures to my bus group. It is illegal to sell on the site and you shouldn't make a buck off a site that's a final resting place to many.
