It looks like you have the right idea as you sit next to water. It has been so dry this year. I saw 2 small bucks and 8 does over the weekend. I killed the smaller one and strapped her to the jeep. I cannot wait for gun season to begin. Gun season starts November 10th (my birthday) and the Marine Corps birthday as well. I am hopeful I will have good luck with a big buck.

Saw a buck a few nights back that was almost worth Jeep hunting. He just strolled across the road, sort of mocking me. Real tempting not to slow down, but alas I did, and he sauntered off into the night. Big boy, big horns. He is gonna make somebody happy. Prob 12 pt at least.

It's a great rut stand! That patch of woods is about 100 yds wide by 500 yds long, connecting two larger patches of timber. Just below the pond is a wet weather creek that runs the length of it. It's a good travel corridor, but you gotta have the right wind or its game over! I shot that pic with my phone yesterday morning while hunting with my daughter.
