Digital Cameras

We got any photographers, or anyone that knows anything about digital cameras here? My GF wants one for christmas, and she wants one colored, not "booring silver." She said pink is her number one color. Anyway, I figured even though its pink, I am going to be stealing it and using it too So I want a decent one. I am pretty dead set on the Sony Cybershot DSC W80. Just curious if anyone knows anything about these? Shes just going to be using it for myspace and stuff, Ill just be using it to take occasional pictures at the farm and stuff, maybe printing 4x6 and a couple 8x11s.

I have the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W70 7.2mp
It's "boring silver" but it's inexpensive and it rated the #2 camera, second to a 10mp for $1k
This one is about $200ish

Ya, I am looking at the W80. same thing, just has the image stabilization and face recognition etc. Same mp and everything. runs the same price too. I looked at the casios at the store, was pretty unimpressed. I actually just found a couple friends that run the cybershot and highly recommend it. I use an Olympus at work, and an HP, and both are OK, but I wouldnt pay for either. Figured its down to Cannon and Sony, and cannon doesn't make any nice ones in color. Looks like the W80 it is

BTW Nicolas, I said the same thing to her. I said you can get a REALLY nice "NORMAL" camera, or a comprimised one with color. I told her its just a stupid camera, not a fashion statement, but alas, we all know how women are.... I get to shoot, she shoots with me, I get to buy jeep stuff and get muddy, and she comes with me.. she just wants a pink camera in return..... I guess I can let it slide this time

Wow, you got those videos off a compact digital camera? You got any regular pictures at max resolution laying around anywhere?

OH WAIT FULL RESOLUTION, NOT BRA SORRY!

A moving pic usually blurry with digital cameras
Note the quality between the two pics. Two different cameras

I'm afraid just a picture of that pair won't do... deliver to my address post haste.

BOT: Stay away from teh Canon Powershot (another boring grey) they are far too dainty for heavy use.

If you are interested in some in depth evaluations of digital cameras:

http://www.dpreview.com/

or

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

I used these two when evaluating which camera to purchase. Very good information on both. There are others too, I just like these two.

Hope this helps..........

For the money you're right on with a W80. Casio uses a plastic lens, they are REALLY bad. Realistically the Canon SD750 is probably the best bet. No IS, but 90% of photography doesn't need it, just push your ISO up.

Ecksjay and I are photographers, between us we've got 1.5 Degrees and about 5 years of selling them. Please refer to www.nrdphoto.com

Then disregard all opinions and buy her the one that's gonna get you laid.

I have 2 digital cameras.

The main one is a Sony MVC-cd500. I bought this one because it uses disks and not a card. I don't have to rely on the puters hard drive to save the pics. It is bigger than the most you have talked about here.

The other one is small and I bought it to carry with me while motorcycling. It's a HP Photosmart M22. I would stay away from that one as your main camera.

Personally I would also stay away from Casio. They have a rep for not having the best quality control...IMO.

I am looking to upgrade to another Sony. One with removeable lens.

If I were you I would buy a camera more expensive than I think I could afford.

Well, I was thinking about the T70. Its most than I wanted to spend, but a little better. I had 3 different camera places tell me the W80 is just as good for cheaper though. They said its the same camera, just a little smaller, and the pictures are negligable for what I am using it for.

And it comes in black too.

I just have to say that the waterproofness of our camera has saved us numerable times, now maybe we're just clumsy or something, but it's really nice to be able to go fishing and have the camera in your vest and not have to worry if it goes underwater or if it's in the dry well of a kayak thats not so dry etc. even thoguh its not as nice or as good as some of the other cameras the waterproofness has saved us LOTS and LOTS of money

but do what you want, just be VERY carefull around water
