drive in

does anyone still have a "drive in" around ?

here were im at, we have a place where they do the swap meets by day, and the drive ins by night. its one of a very few here left in utah.

how ours works is, $7.50 per vehicle. the only rules are; no animals. no alcohol (haha although that is easily avoided)

we show up an hour before sundown, and get our spots, and basically "set up camp" we usually go with a few vehicles. we can bring in food, drinks, and whatever really.

they show all the latest films, usually the most current film shown first, followed by another flick that is also new, just not as popular.

summer time here means sundown is just before 10 pm, and the movie gets underway about that time... then the 2nd movie is starting about 11:30 or midnight.

I miss them!

There are a few scattered around Texas.

I sure had a good time at them back in HS Graduated in 1981.

Lets just say there are a lot of movies that hold extra special memories for me IYKWIM!

I think I helped demo the last two around the Fort Worth area. Gas company bought the whole place, and we leveled everything............

There is one here in Wichita Kansas. It's open 7 nights a week with 2 screens. Shows new movies and is CHEAP! $10 bones for a car- load, doesn't matter if you have a bus.
They show 2 movies during the week and a triple feature on friday and saturday night.

I've got one about 15 mins away. Shows first run movies, on weekends only. Haven't been in a few years, but we used to go when my oldest was an infant because he would not stay with anyone but mommy. So we would put him to sleep in the back of the minivan, and watch the movies.

Distorted, you're in Wichita??? I grew up about 60 miles north of there in McPherson. We used to drive to Wichita (which I was no allowed to do) to cruise Douglas.

Last drive in I went to was in Ohio.

Yep stationed here at McConnell AFB for the last 4 years. Same as Coyote_94yj, but he's PCSing to England in a couple weeks.

What was so special about Douglas street? Or am I too old now to see something thats cool? Was that the " IT " spot or something.

I don't know why, Douglas just seemed to be where all the kids congregated. I'm sure it's not that way anymore. Hell, when I was in high school in the late 80's McPherson was like American Graffiti on Friday and Saturday nights because of the auto restoration program at the local college. We cruised main. Very cool cars. Witchita was just because I wasn't supposed to take the mustang out of town.

Well, I'm not based in California anymore, but there is a drive-in in Barstow, California, about 40 minutes from where I was stationed. It was $6 per person and they always played a double feature. You could bring as much alcohol into the place as you wanted as long as you didn't get too rowdy. We'd bring lawn chairs and a case of beer each and have our own little tailgate parties. Good times. That's about the only good thing I can say about Barstow, California......meth capital of the United States 5 years running!! Nasty.
