EMTs, Paramedics, Firefighters, Police Officers

How many jeepers do we have working in public service? What city, county, of town do you work in and how long have you been doing it?

I am a paramedic for Northstar EMS in Searcy AR. I have been there for 5 years and before that I worked for a Fire Department in Sherwood AR and prior to that I worked for a basic ambulance service in Quitman AR. I have been in this business for 8 years now and still love it (most days). I also work part time for the police department in the town where I live, Bald Knob. I have been doing that for a little over 3 years now.

Start by going to your local PD and doing some ride alongs. Tell them you are interested in becoming an officer. That will allow you to get you feet wet. That is just to see if its something you really want to do, because there is a lot of stuff involved with becoming an officer just to to find out it's not for you. Other than that its just like applying for any other job. Good luck.

Scan local newspapers for job listings. Sometimes you can go down to city hall or govnt building and fill a position of interest form. Basically they will contact you when that hiring process opens up. (dont depend 100% on that to inform you). Or just ask the cops ya see!

Did 5 years as an Army MP and 4 years as a federal police officer. For those interested, check LawOfficer.com for police job openings (not too many openings right now though).

Boston EMS as an intern for the summer.
I am an EMT, but I work at headquarters in Boston.

There are over 400 EMT's for Boston EMS, it's a great time working for them.

Did 4 yrs. as a U.S. Forest Service firefighter and Fire Prevention Tech (law enforcement).

(Not that this counts, but my oldest son is in school for Paramedic and my youngest son is an EMT and also a PCT in a local ER. Very proud of both of them!)
