Engagement rings...Need some opinions

OK, so I wanna get engaged and need a little guidance on the ring.

I already have a marquise being given to me so a large chunk of change is knocked out for me. Now I want to give her a 3 part ring. Engagement, wedding, and 1 year anniversary. I want the whole ring to flow together with the focal point being on the wedding band. I don't like the idea of the engagement ring being the biggest part of the ring. The engagement is only a verbal comment where the ceremony is the bond and forever union therefore the wedding part of the ring should be the focal of the ring,IMO.

Now I would love to have some color in the ring. Really want a few pink diamonds in the set up or sapphire depending on cost. (yea, I know pink is costly)

Need some designs ideas to help me get started. I don't like a bunch of diamonds all over the ring. Makes it goddy looking.

i think you need to talk to jewelers who will be able to help you design and make what you want. sounds costly, better include this in your pre-nup.

Are you 100% sure on the design? I only ask because I spent a lot of time getting hints from my fiance before hand, and found that what she wanted was very different from what I thought she wanted.

For example, I would have guessed a solitaire style, but she ended up preferring one large in the center with a tight ring of smaller diamonds around it.

Make sure about the colors, too. I would imagine that many women don't want color in the ring (based on how few there are in stores with colored stones). Maybe in part because it might not always match an outfit? I dunno, I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff.

We have talked about rings. The only thing I didn't ask was colored accent diamonds. Pink is her favorite color....so I shall see.

The 3 ring idea will go together to make one ring. In the end it would look good.

The sooner you realize that your opinion doesn't count, the better off you'll be.

Get her what SHE wants! You have NO SAY in the ring! Otherwise, she will be reminded every day when she looks at the ring of what a selfish, insensitive clod you are for getting her a ring YOU like but she doesn't!

O, no kidding. Well she is giving me the diamond that she has had. She likes it enough to have bought it. I think that I am being misunderstood. I have asked her enough questions to know what she wants. I'm not going into this completely blind. I know she has to like it because she is wearing it not me. I don't ask her what to do to my jeep but I decide. I have asked her about a ring so she gets what she likes.

What I was saying about the wedding ring is being bigger than the engagement ring is my own opinion. Society says that the engagement is the be all be of the ring. That's the focal because it's the biggest. I think the wedding band should be the largest. The wedding itself is where the union truly begins. So in saying that the wedding band should be the the focal of the ring not the engagement portion of the ring. Her ring is a three part ring so it's all together different.

Maybe I didn't express my thoughts just right the first time but she is getting what she wants. I want hers to be different and not just a run of the mill ring that I slap down some g's to buy. I think that designing and making it myself shows a lot. I plan on marrying her once so I want to stand out and be impressive. To get in engaged: I want to fly to NYC, NY, stay in really nice hotel, very formal dining, and make it the most memorable night ever on valentines. She wants to visit NYC since she has never been. I don't expect to spend less than a thousand dollars on the trip. I know the money spending won't impress her and I could do a lot with the money. At home I'm cleaner than her, (I'm a slight neat freak), cooking anything she thinks of (I love to cook and find it easy to where she can barely cook), and giving her flowers at random times is what I do. I want to be different but not crazy off the wall.

Regarding the ring sizes, one thing you might consider is the fact that even though they will usually be worn together, sometimes they'll take off the engagement ring and just wear the wedding band when there's a chance of damaging it.

If you do it the other way around, she'd be removing her wedding band instead.

Just a thought.
