Watch "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Full Metal Jacket". You do not want to be either of the recruits that offed themselves

Rebel scum, I don't take your brainwashing pills. LOL...

But yeah, hydrate and don't become a heat casualty, change socks every time you can, if they say bring 2 pairs of socks bring 3 or 4 pairs. Its gross to see bloody skin slough off when medics remove socks from a persons feet.

All great advice. I know that I don't know anything about shooting haha. Like I said, it's gonna be a fresh start. Break me down and rebuild me a Marine. Good advice about hydration and socks too. Also, full metal jacket is one of my to favorite movies. Watched it last night in fact.

Navy Federal Credit Union. I've been a member since 1984. Branches on all USMC and Navy installations... Best there is.

I salute you, you're about to embark on a great ride that you'll never forget. Just keep your mouth shut in boot camp, keep your eyes straight ahead when lined up (D.I.s LOVE to catch a boot looking sideways to watch as they chew someone out), and be IN SHAPE when you leave home. Lots of running, no junk food, lose a few pounds, work on your pullups and pushups. You'll thank yourself for having done that once you've been in boot camp a few days.

Thank you for volunteering, this was a good decision. But stay safe and keep your head down!

Well my girl left me because she couldn't stand loosing me to basic in a few months. What kind of logic that is, I'll never understand. Just felt like venting on here.

Sorry to hear that. They say that a Navy spouse (or USMC) has a more difficult job than the actual active-duty member. You may not feel it now, but if she would have an issue with you leaving for boot camp, then the future deployments would be deal breakers for sure. Best to find out now.

Besides, pretty soon you're going to be a buck stud Marine wearing a uniform that even the other branches of the service admit is a chick magnet...

Sucks right now I know. But one less thing to distract you. Rest assured the Corps will issue you everything you need.

There are more than one type of sniper in this world. A lot if these girls see the military boys as an easy way out of that smallville town they are from and a guaranteed paycheck for the next 18 years. I have had a couple of buddies fall into their crosshairs and it is a never ending nightmare.

Good luck and thanks for your service!!

Not in the Corps. But the Army. One thing my Drill Sergeant told me that helped, and I believe it applies to all service members is "embrace the suck" it about all you can do.

Happened to me. I got her back when I came home.

Best thing I heard all through basic(air force), was from my first(out of 20 total{yes I know, we were a bastard flight}) MTI,"remove all gray area, everything should be black and white."

Meaning:if that floor looks dirty, but you're not quite sure, clean it anyway and remove any doubt. That has stuck with me through basic, tech school and now everyday life. Approach EVERYTHING with that attitude and you'll be fine.

And another thing. I'm not sure if this is brainwashed into y'all, but don't become a pompous asshole either. You may think you're the best, but there's 4 other branches that, as even a human and not just a marine, you're scum because you have no respect for any other service. I've met a few hundred marines, about 90% of em seem to be that way. My best friend is a marine. And he is that way, but he knows I'll pop him so he slacks off when it comes to me.

In my experience folks do a lot of joking around about the Marines being better, and i admit I've participated, but at least for me, I have a deep respect for anyone who dedicated themselves to anything as difficult and life consuming as the military

It may not seem like it now but its a good thing. Drop the excess baggage, it'll only slow you down. You wouldn't want to pack your ruck with 20lbs more of crap that you cant use. You don't want your mind with 20lbs of crap either. Run, work out and get ready for boot.

Don't sweat it man, pretty soon you'll have one of these broads in your room... just don't get her pregnant... lol..

In all seriousness, your better off making the separation now so that you can attack bootcamp with a clear head. Dont hook up with anyone new before you leave either. There will be plenty of time to play when you come home in uniform!
I was married 2 weeks before leaving for bootcamp (I was a little older when I enlisted). By the second phase of bootcamp (Edson Range) she had decided that she could not be married to a Marine. By the end of third phase I had divorce papers.

Again, I can't say thanks enough for the supportive words guys. It's all a huge help. This is a big step and I'm only 19. All this encouragement and acceptance is easing my mind a lot. Thank you to everyone who has served before me and to all who support my decision.

If the Marine Corp wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one. Hold off until you have a year in before you make any major plans in the romance department. That doesn't mean don't date - you shouldn't have any issues with that while wearing the uniform. Just don't make any commitments.

Alright. I am going to give you the single most important piece of advice in this thread. you ready?

DONT FALL IN LOVE

dont marry some girl in the barracks that you met last week. she isnt the one. you have no idea how many times it happens!

second most important piece of advice. dont get said barracks chick pregnant.

I saw a guy who lost his virginity to a girl in the barracks, next thing you know she is pregnant. we were all making bets on which color the baby would be. it turned out to be his.

third, stay out of trouble. if you get a DUI you can kiss your career goodbye.
