Magichelmt, interesting you use such a small grain load on a heavy bullet. I'll have to give that a shot. CCI SPP's as well?

for IDPA you have a power floor that everyone needs to stay above. Power factor is calculated as bullet grn size multiplied by the speed in feet per second. That number must be larger than 125,000. I was lurking around the Brian Enos forum and came upon a thread about 9mm loads when I found a similar load. I like it for good accuracy out of my competition gun and very low recoil. I use CCI SPP's as well. Win231 & HP-38 are the same powder if bought in the last few years. Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

Are you keeping your OAL around 1.090"? I suppose with the larger/longer 147gr bullet, a smaller grain load and deeper seating would keep the pressures up.

I really need to invest in a crono. My 115gr loads average 1100fps and my 124gr loads are around 1050 the last time I crono'd them a couple years ago. I just kind of stuck with what worked for me.

My OAL is 1.120. Not going to lie I cannot say I have checked every round, but I recover and reload allot of my brass. I have brass with 6 reloads on it and no signs of wear or pressure. I was really worried about length & metal stress when I started on my single stage press. I pull my barrel and chamber check 10 rounds per 100. With the 550B I check on each primer load so that works well. I will usually load 400 rounds in a sitting. At 1.120" my load will work in my M&P's, my friends glocks, and STI Trojan. I have had so much fun reloading. I am looking forward to working up a load for my soon to arrive FCP-k Savage in .308. My Father-in-law has property in Tennessee where we can reach out to 600 yards and do some off road playing!

Nice. I'll keep that OAL in mind when I give that load a shot. I think I have dozens of reloads on some of my 9mm brass. I'll just cull the cases that are split and keep reloading the good ones. Mostly Federal and Starline brass. For .308 give Sierra Matchking's a shot. 168gr in my Rem 700VTR-5R punches ragged hole groups at 100yds. Plus on the 550b just get some dies, tool head and conversion kit for the .308 and swapping calibers takes minutes.

Yeah I love the 550B. I have heads for 9mm, .40, .45acp, .223, and one spare head. I generally do 30.06 on my rock chucker. I was thinking I would do .308 on it as well. I just picked up some of those 168 grn HPBT bullets on my buddies recommendation as well. I need to look into powders now. I have a few pounds of Varget and a couple of load recipes. Now I just need my rifle to get here. Anytime this week. Now I need to order some glass. That is where is gets $$$$$$$$

A little work on that stance and grip and you would shoot much better.

After a lot of searching/trying out, I think I've finally decided on my first: Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm. Anyone else have one?

And since finally deciding on that one, they seem to be pretty elusive; we've only found one at a gunshow a few months ago, and it was already being purchased. Hoping to be able to order one from Cabelas, or we'll have to hit up gunbroker. There's a Kimber 1911 9mm (not full size) that is my 2nd choice if I'm unable to get the Springfield. Those two felt the most comfortable in my hand.

If the Kimber is not your first choice due to price difference, then let me tell you that you will NOT be sorry to outlay more for the Kimber. It will be well worth it in the end in both quality and customer service. And I'm not downing the Springfield as it's a fine gun, just sorta like the difference between KC Strip and Prime Rib. :-) (And after trying it out, my soon to be new carry piece will be the Kimber 1911 Ultra Carry, replacing my LC9):

Newest addition:
Sig Sauer 556 swat

Figured I'ld do something a little different from and AR, was going to build a lefty stag when I came across the Sig (ambi controls, and supposedly it ejects the spent brass more forward.

Heavy though - next to my tacti-cool AR, and the bare Sig is noticeably heavier
