Firearms.. WOOT!

We haven't had a firearm talk in awhile.

Been thinking about pickin up either the new Berretta PX4 storm in .40 or an FN FNP40 in about 6 months. Both feel good in the hand, but Ive only got the chance to test fire an XD40 and CZ40B when it comes to .40. Anyone know anyone with one? Good/bad experiences? Other options I overlooked?

I'm thinking that my "economic stimulus" check should be spent on something American made, preferably a firearm! I'm thinking shotgun for now, as I don't currently have one. There are a few really sweet Italian made shotguns at my gun store of choice, but of course, that contradicts the whole buy American theme. I'm leaning towards something smallish, preferably w/ a tactical style stock, pump action. Suggestions on what to look at?

I've got XD in .45 and my buddy has the PX4 Storm in .40. He likes his and I like mine. I can say the PX4 is a very sweet shooting gun. I prefer the XD and I've never been more accurate with any other pistol.

I loved the XD in 9 and 45, but in 40 its a little top heavy. Gets kinda flippy.

Thats exactly what I am doing with my stimulous money. American made firearm

I like the FNP better, but I have heard rumors of the trigger groups cracking VERY early (like 300 rounds) with the 07 models. Supposed to be fixed, but I am still a little weary. The PX4 however, I had only ever heard good things about

I wish i could afford to shoot .45, Id grab an XD45 in a heartbeat.

.45 isn't much more expensive than .40, especially if you get into reloading.

I was about to say, I was paying more for .40 than I am now for .45 ACP.

I like the M&P also, but im still not entirely thrilled with S&W. My first handgun experience was with a sigma, and the M&P I test fired had the magazine drop issue.

I think I will pass

I bought a revolver. .357Mag. The Sigma is a HORRIBLE gun and you should base nothing off that piece of S**T except any gun better than it is worth buying.

The sigma is without a doubt the worst pistol I have ever seen garbage up the firing line of any shooting event. I can't believe that smith and wesson stamped their name on that piece of crap.

Now, I really like smith's revolvers. They own the revolver market for a reason.

And I like Skeeter's pic, which pops up on occasion when people start getting too deep into the caliber discussions. Caliber really is not all that important once you get above the .380 range.

OK - to the OP. If you are looking for a .40 for self defense, get a Glock, XD or M&P. Those are the top picks IMHO in the genre. The beretta has had some issues, and has not taken off. Parts are hard to come by as are accessories. FN I have just not seen around, and I go to a lot of shooting schools. You don't want to end up with a novel, oddity of a pistol that nothing is available for. Stick with the big names that have a track record.

Oh, and good luck.

Right now I have a Springfield GI Model 1911. I love it. I'm thinking of getting the XD 45. The PX4 is another choice. Choices, choices...That just takes money away from the Jeep.

you'll shoot yer eye out kid!

I like guns.. *grins*

I currently carry a S&W 40 as my personal protection assistant. I want to get another 9mm because I'd like to have something a little bit smaller (ankle) I'm not a purse carrying girl..

I'm also in the market for a shot gun. I think that's essential for homestead protection. The sound of a shot gun being racked makes me happy
I'd like to do that in the dark sometime. LOL. Not really.

I asked for one for Christmas two years ago and I got a stupid laptop instead. Maybe he thought I was kidding??

Carried a 6" Colt Trooper in .357 for ten years. Left the reserves as we we going to autos. Currently play with a Beretta 96FD in .40 and a Glock 17 in 9mm. Looking for a .45 to round out the toy box.

whiteyj, how you like that .40 96fs? I considered one of those also, but I was under the impression they have a tendency to be flippy.

Actually really like it. Grew up shooting 1911's. The 96 just feels good in the hand.

Resurrected from the dead whiteyj

I have had that PX4. Excellent gun. No issues jamming, more accurate than I am, and light recoil for a .40. Only issue is the "trigger sting" that they get when its below 55 degrees or so. It doesn't bother me much, and my GF just wears a thin pair of work gloves when its that cold anyway.

Just picked up a Saiga in 7.62x39 to go with my SKS last week. Took her to the range, she was a BLAST! That's my new favorite rifle I think. I am half tempted to trade my Win 94 30-30 for a .308 Saiga.. Just got to get an AK front sight tool to pull the sights a tad to the right and a tad bit up.

I'm selling my Colt Diamondback 4" .22 and getting a Colt Defender, the Gold cup I currently carry is just getting in the way, I want something a bit smaller but won't give up the caliber.
As far as shotguns, I like the winchester 1300 combo, comes with a long smooth bore barrel and a short rifled slug barrel. I have one of my old M16 slings on it. The slug barrel is dead nuts accurate at 50 yards which I did not expect.
Gotta make time to reload the 5,000 cases I have now that the bullets came in and I picked up the powder and primers.
