Lol!
Did I mention I drive a Toyota?
For an off-road machine we're looking at TJ right now though, FJ 40s are badass but we don't have the time to maintain em not to mention it gets pretty cold up here, so good heaters are nice :-)

I was looking at Tacoma Trucks a few years ago. They were very capable vehicles and for a few years very good looking too. When they went to this current body style, I thought they went a little bit too ugly with them. HATE the rear fender treatment.

When I started looking into getting another Jeep last year, after selling my WJ to my son, I also had the Tacoma on the short list. I just could not get over those bloody rear fenders. As the saying goes, ya can't fix ugly.

But then a JK fits my needs better for a grand kid hauler, so once again I'm a happy camper.

I have to admit the Tacoma TRD T/X Baja 4x4 is interesting since I don't rock crawl and if I needed more towing capacity. I would hate losing the convertible feature of the Wrangler.

The only Toyota's I like are the old school FJ40's and the Tacoma's. Problem with the Tacoma's is that they are ridiculously overpriced. Even looking at a used Tacoma with mid-higher miles is unfairly expensive. Sure, they are nice, but they aren't that nice. It's just a V6 pickup truck.

I have been on both sides having owned 2 Tacoma's and an FJ in the past 8 years. Currently own a 4Runner Trail Edition and a JKUR (also previously a YJ & TJ). There is some name blasting and generalizations being thrown around by owners of each. Like my Toyota may not be a rock crawler but it will start and I can stand to drive it home or the Jeepers talking about the Mall Crawling Toyota's or that independant suspension can't climb anything off-road.

The real truth is that both vehicles are capable on the street and off road it just depends on where your priorities are and what you like about a vehicle.

For me, I love to drive my current Jeep on the road and offroad better than any other vehicle I have owned. My Toyota's also drove well on road and I've taken them places off road and back that many people would not have tried.

I'll back OP's story up a little. I drive to this grocery store near work to get lunch a few times a week and on more than one occasion I've come out to my Jeep with 2 FJs on either side or in front like they're ganging up on my or something. A few have tried to drag race me off a stoplight too.

Although, they may just be trying to fit in. I've had one or two try and wave at me.

I've only really seen one modded FJ around me. Looked pretty sweet sitting on 33s and some other equipment on the tire carrier. But overall I think they look a little goofy. It seems like they sit decently high but their body is too tall for their gait. I like the wheels outside the body for off roading personally. To each their own.

I will say that there are some sweet 2nd and 3rd gen Toyota 4Runners and trucks with some cool guys who drive them, and go pretty much everywhere I can. I have run with a few in my JK and never had an issue- super friendly guys, and I was the only Jeep there. Toyota does have a pretty solid off-road heritage. The FJ guys are sometimes a different story. A few remind me of the Ellsworth guys in the mountain biking world. Weird of them for sure. If I see an old Toyota, chances are the driver will be cool.

If it was a TJ with a 4.0L it had 190 hp. If it had a 2.4L or a 2.5L it had even less. Was there another version of the TJ that's not on the list below?

Most of the FJ drivers I deal with at work are kind of snobbish. I have driven one of the new ones and the old ones as well. Old is far better in every way. New toyotas are nice and shiny but I do have to give off road props to the old ones. My younger brother has had two 84 toyota pickups and they do really well. His first one out wheeled a lifted 97 dodge and a lifted 78 chevy when his was stock.

Back on topic, I have one customer in particular that drives a new FJ. He and I got talking about it and he hung his head and said it was a compromise he made with his wife. She wanted something for around town with the kids and he wanted a CJ7 lol. I would say he lost on that one.

I think my post was just sharing the coincidences I had with the FJs out there. But I am not trying to label all of them as bad. It just happens that week I had lot of bad driving attitudes from them.

Is same thing as when you are driving and you see a car blasting on next lane and then cuts in front of you... then suddenly that same car starts driving slow. You go next lane and pass him and for some odd reason they then start passing you again and do same thing again. Same thing as when I see cars in front of me; Left lane car wants to switch to right lane, Right lane car wants to go left. But neither wants to let the other pass the other lane.

I get a lot of crap from some new FJ owner, saying stupid stuff like,"Barbie drove a Jeep," things like that. I hold my tongue. I am jealous of his the FJ's stock lockers though, I wish I didn't have to shell out mucho dinero for them.

I read this in an FJ forum debating wether or not the Jeep was superior and why, and this was one of the replies:
"FJ is way super cuter and holds way more shopping bags, plus it has a big mirror on the sunvisor!"
I died laughing!

I felt like I was in a tiny box when I was driving\riding in my ex's fj... So cramped, giant blind spots and such. .

She also thought her FJ was better than my TJ...

I'm surprised that the state license bureau would permit that one to be printed. Obviously an oversight on someone's part.

If you want to make life difficult for the owner, report it to the state's DMV where it is registered and I bet the owner gets a notice that they have to choose a different plate.

Tuesday night we're at the driving school getting my 15 year old signed up, the empty space was next to a blue FJ. Now mind you I've never been in a FJ and could care less, I've only bought American cars (saw what you want). So we come out and she's walking to her FJ, sees my JKU with the freedom panels off and windows down. She looks at me says, "nice way to rub it in", my wife asked me what her problem was - figured it was a case of Topless Jealousy.
