Angry Flooded this morning.

So my mom comes running to the basement, mind you this is 4:45am. Saying hey the addition basement is flooding AGAIN. So I hope out of bed and thinking the 2 yes I said 2 -- 2in pumps in the sump pump wells could not keep up with the water coming in. So I am brooming water to the floor drains for the past 3 hours. The backyard had just over a foot of water, in a 6000 square foot area! The neighbors yard where the storm drain is was under water too. I made one very very very angry phone call to the city today about why the drains can't keep up. I got the answer we are working on it. LOL.

I will have pictures after I have my first cup of coffee this morning. I am damn tired. (finally got to bed from my wisdom teeth settling down around 3:15 am BTW not a great way to start the morning.)

Been there... in-laws basement flooded often not a fun way to spend the day. Is the the yard flat or any hills near by?

we are the lowest point in the sub division. The drain storm drain is 100 feet from the back corner of the addition my dad and I built. We had the 4 neighbors around the drain flooded. The water in the back yard was so deep is was running over the top of the basement wall foundation into the basement. This is the second time this has happened. I put a pump in that pumps out 4000 GPH at a 10' lift height and then the other pump is a 5000 GPH pump at 10' lift height running continuous. Mom ran to lowes and grabbed a third pump ( 1 1/2 outlet pump) 2000 GPH and it finally started to help out. So effectively we were pumping out around 11000 gallons of water for 3 hours anybody need a pool filled( say roughly 30,000-33,000 gallons of water)?! I can sell water to california

Sounds as if the storm drain is way undersized, but you know that, anyway to increase the out flow other than using pumps?

Well I almost went and started the bobcat in the backyard and dug a pond tho. I was tempted and close to doing it. I already placed the order for a new pump. Going to cost me 600 bucks not including shipping but it pumps out almost 7000 GPH at 10' lift. That should work.

Well you may also want to dig some sort of swell to divert the water away from the house if you dont have one already, or depending on the yard slope, some sort of bench cut to help make a natural wall.

done and done but if you saw the backyard and my neighbors burn they built that almost got demolished by the bobcat this morning you would understand why we have some issues. Also the city told me tough luck on the neighbors burn (since he is allowed to have it along with he left 1 one foot opening for the water to get to it.) I have asked him nicely to take it down on that side or run drainage tile around and under it to the drain. He said no since his wife would think it is ugly with the grass torn up. Well one of these nights there will be new pipe there. I will just have no clue how it got there tho lol

Not sure what the laws are in your area, but here, unless there is a drainage easement, path defined on the property layout record.. then no property owner can have water from their property flow in such a way that it would allow it to go onto another owners land. That is the simple version of it. And sometimes its better not to get the county involved...been there done that.

Are you sure your storm drain is actually draining and not pumping water back into your land?

Ohh his yard got flooded too. You can see in the first and third pic, that is 4 backyards under more then 1 foot of water.
