Fred Thompson for President

This conversation actually started in the runaway off topic thread and it got me thinking. Not really about the race for the white house but how people in general feel about him running.

Will his actor status hurt or help him? Do you think people will be able to separate the man from the characters he plays? Do you think his having cancer is a detriment? Which other candidate do you think he hurts the most by running?

Just in case you don't know who he is.

We always get quite a few who say they'll run and really have no chance. I'm just curious about this guy for some reason. I really wonder why anyone would want to be president anyway.

Fred Thompson brings back the GOP to it's conservative roots. I could care less if he was on TV or not. The man was a US Senator for 8 years, and he was never voted out. He chose not to run again on his own. He took the seat from Al Gore in Tn. when he went on to be VP. A lot to be said about a Rep. taking a Dem. seat. His views are pretty much right in line with mine. He doesn't always say what the party wants him to say, but at least he doesn't change his mind on things like McCain does. He still believes in the 2nd Amendment unlike Guiliani who I still think would fit more on the Dem ticket if Mr. Clinton wasn't running.

Overrall I like the man's thoughts and believe that he can easily lead us for the next 8 years.

The major ones on the GOP ticket are going to be McCain, Guliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson (Hasn't declared yet, but will soon I'm sure). The rest are really just in it for the show right now and will start dropping out after the first primaries.

I'm a registered Republican and out of all the JACKA**ESS running, Fred Thompson talks like a REAL AMERICAN ! I hope he throws his hat in the ring. Speaking of actors, Ronald Reagan a true AMERICAN PRESIDENT !

From everything I've read and heard about him, and from him, I'm really glad he's running. (He's going to officially declare his candidacy the 4th of July) I think he's what this country needs to get back on track.

I don't think it'll hurt him at all. Since Ronald Reagan paved the way, I can think of at least 3 other actors who have, successfully, moved into political positions. And, like Jack said, he was in government/law before he was an actor. His resume is impressive, IMO. As far as separating the man from the characters he plays, I haven't seen the characters he plays, is he a good guy?

Do you think his having cancer is a detriment?
I read about this. From what I understand, his cancer is in remission and is very treatable, if it did flare up. Personally, I don't see it as being a detriment.

If he's the best man for the job, I hope he hurts them all.

Ditto

Actor status means nothing, look at Pres Reagan. With Fred Thompson, all candidates should be re-evaluating their approach. The only Dems with a chance are Hildabeast and Osama-bin-Obama. Two fine socialist if I ever saw one. McCains will loose to Guiliani or Fred Thompson. I'm a little bit of a Moderate but I would vote for a Thompson/Guiliani ticket. THE issue IS national security, who gives a crap about abortion. I wouldn't ant my daughter getting one just for $hits and giggles, but if she were raped, I would encourage it. And if the Mccain/Kennedy Amnesty bill goes through, well...I guess we all need to learn spanish. Wall all US borders and enforce immigration laws. Kick illegals out when caught, and make them go through legal channels when they want to come in properly. Or we can just annex Mexico.

X2 on the no vote for Nitt. That guy is whacked

As for the Illegals. I would be interested to see if any of the candidates are willing to enforce the laws already on the books to fine companies for hiring them.
Swift knew 2 months in advance of the upcoming "SURPRISE" raid to the point of even trying to stop it in court and it still hurt them. More raids like this on a weekly basis would do more to cut down on the illegals then a fence (IMO).Take down the bird feeder

Tiny, I believe that he will run away with the election. It's great that he is running. We at least have someone who can actually serve as Prez...IMHO

There are still people who believe that this is a great country, have morals and integrity. Fred Thompson is one of those....and of course, he's from Tennessee!!! I think he may very well be the next Reagan....of course this is just my opinion.
