Gas Station Ordered to Repay Customers for Overpriced Gas

Chock one up for the little guy. This gas station in Asheville has been ordered to repay customers thousands of dollars for overpriced gas and diesel due to gouging back in September. Click here for the entire article from the Asheville Citizen-Times.

The investigation into gouging is continuing, maybe some of these gougers will think twice before trying this stuff the next time.

Richard

To bad the station owners are at the end of the line. We need to do that to the oil companies. I always found it funny that during the oil shortages all over the U.S. The oil companies made record profits!

They did that to some stations in Arkansas, too. Too bad the only people who could get refunds were the people that could prove with a receipt that they bought gas on the day in question.

They could have been fined $10k per incident, but in my opinion, got away with a slap on the wrist. Instead they were fined $250 to go to local charities.

The way I see it, the gas in the tanks at the station is the property of the station's owner.
I think fines for gouging are a joke, if I owned the station, I have a right to charge how ever much I want for the gas that I own... If you don't want it don't buy it... now its a different story for pumps that are rigged or stuff like that...

And DING DING DING, we have a winner. I can sell what I own for any price I choose. Don't want to pay the price? Don't buy, go somewhere else. Unless the stations got together and made a pact to raise their rates together, I don't see a problem.

You mean other than it being illegal to raise more than 10% at one time during a declared state emergency? That was the case here.

Unless they all got together and collectively raised the price at all the stations people had the choice to go elsewhere and pay a lower price. The way you punish a store for gouging is by not buying product there.
