Something else I've heard from people that may make the Jeep less top heavy, off set rims. Anyone know anything about that? Idk if that is what it is actually called but that's the only thing I know it as

Most aftermarket wheels have less back spacing than your OEM. Offset is just just the center of the wheel where it mounts +/- (in or out)
Most of us will look for 4.5 or even 3.75 of backspacing to push the wheels out further to fit wider/bigger tires.
I'm running wheel spacers which do the same thing.
But yes it will make the jeep more stable with the wider stance

Good luck finding a Jeep...i bought mine off craigslist too...got a great deal on it and was actually glad it had all the lift and tires already. I will customize it as it gets older but she is a head turner now plus it came with all the extras..winch, soft top, bikini top and even an electric winch for removing the hardtop solo. Ready for my first offroad ride with her this weekend with my guys (two boys and hubby) and some other jeepers..

Thanks! And I'll have to look on craigslist, haven't looked there yet. And cool! I'm afraid to buy one that already has all that cause knowing my luck, a dumb teenager prob ran the hell out of it (hence why it would be for sale lol) but have fun on your trip! If you can, take some pics and post on this thread

I bought mine at Carmax.....was previously owned by a girl who took really good care of it (she left her insurance card in the glovebox).....I think the top had been down only a few times....for being 3 years old, it looked brand new....nothing had been added to it, then I immediately put in a lockbox under the seat and a tailgate cover/organizer....that was fun....first time drilling into the Jeep...broke 2 drill bits before all was said and done.

I was afraid of that too when i was looking for one. Fortunately hubby is a heavy equipment mechanic for DOD and knows what to look for. I had him crawl under and check the axles, look all into the engine and such to make sure she was not used and abused! I even took my other Rubicon friend when i picked her up and had him crawl under it and check it out...lol...the guy selling it kept looking at us strange but i didnt care. I will certainly be taking pics this weekend and posting them!

Jeeps are really not that top heavy it took me years of doing crazy sh*t before mine rolled, flipped it back up topped off the oil and kept wheeling

You can never build them for less than what you can buy an already built rig. However, building it yourself is what makes it a part of the owner and gives them each an individual look. If buying one with a lift kit check for a name brand kit and not something that was just pieced together. Check the skid plate that runs across the middle under the tranny (people forget to clean this), if it is full of mud/dirt stay away that rig has been sunk and probably has had water in the axles or tranny. Check the top of the shocks for mud/fluid coming out of the reservoirs also= blown shocks.

Hope you find a Jeep soon. Not many of us girls out here showing the guys how it's done

Well that's good to hear and thanks for the info! I definitely need all the info I can get, I don't wanna buy one that will end up being junk the day after I get it or something. And I agree about when you modify it yourself, it kinda reflects you in a way. Like that's MY Jeep and ya!! Girl power!! Haha :P

Hey just wanted to check in, I looked for months online and after almost being scammed online i finally found one at a toyota dealership that was in my price range. when we showed up we saw a beautiful jk rubi that was definitely out of our price range but after test driving both ( a tj and jk) and negotiating a bit we were able to pull the trigger on the rubi

Never been happier!

Hope you find one soon just be patient, it'll come to ya

Hey there!

I just joined - I'm on my first Jeep, too. I'd always wanted one, and a 9-point buck jumping in front of my Sequoia provided the perfect opportunity to get one. Of course the Jeep's name is Buck... I'll post a pic as soon as I can figure out how to reduce the size.
