Go Pro or similar?

So Im thinking of getting a Go Pro or something similar that I can use on wheeling trips and the wife can use on her tough mudder runs. It would need to have different mounting types and be completely waterproof. Any other options out there that you all can think of?

Checkout the ION. It has a bike mount that mounts right to the JK's tow hooks plus it was wifi for your phone. I used it today but have not downloaded it yet. www.iontheaction.com

Gopro all the way! It is waterproof (in its case), has unlimited possibilities for mounting options, and is relatively cheap depending on what model u get. I feel the gopro is the best bang for the buck. I have talked to a couple other guys about other cams they have, and they just aren't quite as equipped as the gopro out of the box IMO. Also, think about what all of the action sport athletes use, numerous television shows/companies use, etc...gopro. if I wasn't on my phone I'd post a couple of the videos I have put together using my gopro. If you want to check them out look up "gconstable23" on YouTube. They were shot on one of the older gopros out there...before the original hero came out.

the Contour2 has gotten some pretty good reviews. Also, sony entered the game with their Action Cam. But if you want the best, get the new GoPro Hero3

I looked at the ContourROAM and the Replay. But it still looks like the GoPro has more features.

I had a friend who won the contour (I think) in a contest and I didn't like the fact that for the price it would have cost him (i have heard that it is a decent camera though), u didnt get nearly as much as u did with a gopro. They don't come with a waterproof case, they don't come with a fish-eye lens, etc. Just between those two things u r probably looking at another 50 or 60 dollars. For 50-60 dollars with a gopro, u could get a few more mounts or a couple of additional accessories that make a gopro that much better. For the money, I personally don't think the gopro can be beat.

Gopro!

I love my hero2, with the handlebar mount it fits perfect around the mirror on a TJ.

I'll have a hero3 soon an with that or the wifi backpack on the hero2 you can use their app to control the cameras!

I have a GoPro Hero 2 HD. Great camera. Use it for skydiving, work, shooting comps...you name it. I also like that it's easy enough to mount using zip-ties, para-cord, or anything else you can think of if there isn't a specific mounting solution for it. The only downside so far is that, unlike some of the other cameras out there, it doesn't come standard with a LCD viewer onboard so you can't view the video you just shot on the camera, or aim the camera if it's helmet mounted, roll bar mounted or whatever. You can get an add-on screen but I'm not sure what that does to it in regards to fit in the waterproof case.

The new Hero3 comes with built in wifi. you can download the app on your smartphone and control the camera plus see what your'e filming.

One complaint about the Hero3 is, there is no GPS tagging(coordinates, MPH, etc) Some of the other cams have that capability.

When you add the wifi backpack or lcd backpack to the hero2 it comes with a replacement backdoor you swap out so it is still waterproof

I plan on getting a GoPro Hero3 after tax returns next year. The Black Edition isn't cheap (HERO3 Black Edition | Wi-Fi enabled | Most Advanced HD GoPro Ever) at $400... but it's easily the best sports cam I've seen. My buddies all do motorcross and autocross with these units, they get beat to crap and they continue to troop on.

Here is a video with my go pro hero 2 attached to my sway bar using the handle bar mount. I have attached mine to my sliders using roll bar mount, and the suction mount other places.

I forgot about this thread so here are a few of the videos I have put together all shot completely with the Gopro. Enjoy.

Here is my most recent trip:

Last Chance Canyon:

John Bull (I filmed this one in the wrong setting so the video doesn't fill the whole screen )

You can see more of my videos on youtube...username is gconstable23
