Fishing the Smith is great. I haven't gotten to fish it when the salmon is running yet, but it will happen, one of these days. Takin' the Jeep on the stretch of beach out to the mouth of the Smith is a fun ride too.

We keep our RV at the Ship A Shore and I see folks over on the beach with there Jeeps and ATVs all the time when we are up in the Bar. My 2 Biggest Salmon have come off the Smith a 42# and the 38# that is in the photo. We fish the Chetco from January thru the first of March for Steelhead.

I'm too cheap to buy an Oregon fishing license, and I know their DFG Rangers are on the job all the time (personal experience). When I finally move to Oregon, then I won't fish California anymore.

Well, I can't compete with that picture.

I went surf fishing Saturday and got my personal best. Caught a spotfin croaker that was in the 18 - 20" range in length, it was about 6" tall dorsal to belly and about 4-5 pounds. As soon as one of the guys who took a pic sends it to me, I'll try to post it. It was fantastic. I was so jazzed. Forgot to put on the sunscreen and the tops of my feet are burnt crispy, but I was still smilin' all day Sunday.

I have to say the only salt water fishing I have done was in the Puget Sound. We caught true cod and Sand sharks.
I would really like to charter a boat in the gulf some day.
