Gone fishing

The weather's just starting to get warm enough for surf fishing. I know alot of y'all don't live on or near the coast, but for any of you that do have you ever tried this and/or gotten hooked on it like I have ? I want to go every chance I get. It's great standing there looking out at the ocean, with a line in the water. I'm even, to my wifes distaste, starting to keep bait in the freezer so I'm ready at a moments notice to go.
I've surf fished several different beaches up and down the California coast, from San Diego all the way to the Oregon border. Standard catch is usually Corbina, Croaker, perch, shark, stingray/other rays, and if theres some rock structure then Sargo and possibly other rock fish. Just went yesterday, kids played in the sand, even got the wife to fish for a while.

I'm more partial to going out deep sea fishing. Ever been to Pukey Point? It's just like it's name hints at. Last time I surf fished was when I was a little kid back in Atlantic City.

I've read that stripers run in the San Francisco area & you can surf fish for them at or near the mouth of the bay. I'd like to try that, I've seen pictures, nice lookin' fish.
I hear stories from people who catch halibut in the surf, It's a goal of mine to catch one, one of these times....
We were at the beach this past December when it was a really low tide, one of the kids found a small (18") halibut in the shallows so I know they exist there.

Pukey Point ?? Where is that ?

Northwest Coronado Island I believe is where we were. The waves roll in just right to make the boat almost roll in a circle.

Sounds too far South for me to surf fish. 2 hours away to Coronado, sounds like a good spot though.

Went trout fishing this morning on the Little Red River in central Arkansas. My nephews from Nashville, TN were in town on spring break, so we loaded up and went fishin! It was a VERY slow day. we fished 7 people in two boats for three hours and finally got within one fish per boat of our limit. 33 trout all together. The water was extremely low and there was about a 15-20 mph breeze. But the sun was out and it was warm and we had a good time.

Any day fishin' is better than a day workin'.

I live by this motto.

If I fish all day, and catch nothing, it's still a good day.

If you were supposed to actually catch something it would be called "Going Catching". I usually catch a buzz and a tan and that's ooooookayyyyyy by me.

I spent my youth at Marion County Lake in Kansas fishin' for large mouth and catchin' crawdads...... but yeah, I'm doubting you. Fish don't like uneven numbers.

Hehehe, one early spring day, Skeeter and I went fishing on a good sized lake. We paddled the canoe over to a bunch of lilypads and Skeeter baited my hook for me. (This was before we were married and I was new to fishing so he was being a gentleman about it.) I dropped my hook into the water and before he could bait his hook, I had a fish. A nice sized bluegill. He took the fish off and rebaited my hook, I dropped my line in the water and he went back to baiting his line but before he got done I had another fish, he made me wait till he was done with his and then took care of my second fish, Before he got the fish off my hook he had a fish. He got his fish off and baited my hook again, he went to bait his hook and I got another fish so he dropped his bare hook in the water and took care of mine but before he was done with mine he had a fish on his bare hook.
It was completely insane, we were in a huge school of blue gill, you couldn't get your line to the bottom before you had a fish and we didn't even need bait, they'd bite anything.
We got so many we filled our bucket and then started filling the cooler, they were coming so fast we even had a few flopping around the bottom of the canoe.
Man what fun.

We went fishing on Sunday. The river is running really high, fast and murky. Didn't catch anything but debris, but we still had fun. Did quite a bit of jeeping looking for fishing spots that weren't flooded out (that sounds weird, "flooded out fishing spots") so it was all good in the end.

I went out on the Cache la Poudre river west of Fort Collins on Sunday and did fairly well. Caught 11 out of 14 strikes. All were rainbow trout in the 11 - 14 inch range. The river is still clear and running moderate. Catch em while you can, The rivers will blow out soon enough.

Wow, Sidedrifter, your fish makes the fish we catch look like bait.
