Smile Gun silencer

So I am in the process of reverse engineering a silencer for my 22. I am going to be doing all the machining to make it come together, but I want it to be legal. Only sites I have seen show how you should make it and do not touch on the legal aspects of what you must do first in paperwork. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great.

What state are you in? I know in AZ you need to get a Class 3 firearms license (paperwork and takes anywhere from 3-6 months)

Read the sticky thread in the forum I pointed you to, it should answer just about any question you have, and for godsakes don't make a suppressor out of pvc and tennis balls. It would be incredibly stupid to pay the tax stamp on something so likely to blow up in your face.

No they are not illegal in most states, but they must be purchased from a Class 3 dealer unless you make them. I have both a mill and lathe in the garage to make it work. I just need to get my paperwork done now so I can start.

They also need to be trackable (accountability), so some form of identification number (serial number) must be used. Big brother is always watching.......

If you plan on traveling make sure you leave it behind. You don't want to get caught with on in a state that doesn't allow them. Ignorance is no excuse.

Stick around. Weapon threads are quite common.

I have a buddy who has one and the bolt makes more noise than the actual shot. I just got my fingerprint cards today so I will start on my paperwork and then once that is processed I will get working on the fun stuff.

Yeah, that whole "exploding into a pink mist" part of the shot typically preceeds the sonic part....
