12ga beside the bed, loaded tube but none in the chamber. LC9 beside the bed when I'm at home (CC daily), loaded with one in the chamber. 357 revolver, loaded in another room. P89 loaded, empty chamber in yet another room. Basically, door gets kicked in, no matter where I am in the house I'm near a loaded gun.

Actually, I have my 12 guage "zombie gun" by my bed. Five in the pipe. It's a forgiving "Three in the morning"weapon. Won't go through a lot of drywall and the sight picture is, well, whatever is down the hallway...

It's not about where we live, it's about if the door gets kicked in what good does a loaded gun do if the intruder is between me and my firearm? The only reason there are 2 loaded guns in the bedroom is because my daily carry sits on my nightstand with my keys, wallet, etc when I'm home. If there were a break in at night I would be grabbing my Remington 870 with an attached light, not my 9mm pocket pistol.

CZ 320 semi-auto 20 gauge sleeps on my side, ready to rock with hand loads of 00 buck ready to rock. Keep a MR .45 in the JK ready to go when I'm traveling. Before someone asks why, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

That's what I think too (but I'll also defend my family or even a complete stranger), so do you carry or just have it in the Jeep?

Also, why have 20 when you can have 12?

Why 12 when you can have 10, or better yet a (legally) sawnoff punt gun? BOOM, lol.

Bears got into the cherry trees and bird feeders last night. Grrrrr, totally trashed 2 seed feeders, left he hummingbird one all alone. Not a cherry left under 14' off the ground, they pulled some BIG branches over. Yessir, I keep a rifle with boolits close by. I never even heard em or I would've been smokin bear brisket by now. At least they stayed out of the garden, though. All in all, still better than liquor store robberies, fire trucks at all hours, and traffic.

I keep the 20 by the bed because it is lighter, and easier to handle in a pinch. I have a 12 gauge Citori O/U and a 12 gauge BPS. Fact of the matter is, I'd rather have a semi auto over a pump or O/U simply bc it cycles way faster than I can pump or break one down to reload. Also, I can shoot the 20 with one arm if I had to for whatever reason. I carry most of the time, but my .45 gets in and out of the Jeep with me. I travel a lot for work, but I never leave it in there unattended for longer than the 3 to 5 minutes when I get gas.

You will like the Nikon glass. I have a Nikon 2.5-10 x 44 Tactical with Mil Dot Reticle on my 700P.

Why do you have car insurance if you've never had a wreck?
Why do you keep a fire extinguisher in the Jeep or at home?

In case you need it.

I hope that I never have use a firearm in defense of myself or anybody in my family. But on the off chance that I do, I'm ready to protect them with all I have.

I live in a decent area, but I have no illusions about the fact that if things went bad, others who want that which we have will come a kicking and a pounding. When we had the tornado outbreak in April 2011, we were without power and gas for several days (nearly a week). My wife and kids were VERY happy I had the firearms ready to go if needed. Robberies at the convenience store by our neighborhood resulted in the perp being shot dead, so we know the criminal element was out trying to make a profit (or whatever else they were wanting to do).

I may live in Canada with BS gun control laws, but believe me, if someone breaks in my house... they are in big trouble

THIS! Very well put.
You have a right to defend yourself, your family and your property. Whether you choose to do this with a gun or a bat or by running away and calling the police, is up to each of us. Just know that while calling 911 is an option, the cops can't be everywhere at once. Most times the cops will not arrive in time to intervene and save you. Maybe it's because I was in infantryman, maybe it bc I'm from a gun friendly state (TX, God Bless!) maybe it's something else, but I will choose to stand and defend myself and my family. I choose to carry for this same reason. It's not that I'm looking for a fight and hopefully, I'll never have to use it, but I'll be damned if I'm going to become another victim bc I wasn't able to defend myself if needed.

Also, police aren't required to "save" you from anything. They're there afterwards to collect information after the fact. I rely on no outside source for personal protection.

Depends on your state's laws. In Texas you are allowed to use deadly force to protect yourself and your property, as anyone should be allowed, IMO.

You obviously don't live in Texas....chapter 9 specifically outlines protection of property and when deadly force is authorized...criminal trespass at night, commission of arson, acting in defense of self and others property ....list goes on.

I am afraid of fires, so I keep fire extinguishers. I am afraid of court judgements, so I keep auto insurance. I also keep flashlights, but have no fear of the dark. I will never be afraid of individual humans, whether I own weaponry or not.

As mentioned, though, Leo's are only charged with investigating crimes already having happened and prosecuting criminals (after the crime, of course).
I may not be able to use deadly force to prevent the guy at the grocery store from taking the loaf of bread out of my cart, but if he comes into my house uninvited, you're d@mned right I can (and will) use deadly force. He ain't there to make a sandwich.

I keep my DPMS AR next to the bed with one in the tube. I recently sold a Glock 40 that used to keep with me as my CC. I am going to purchase a semi-auto .38 to keep with me in the future.

Have 'em both, the sks is far more accurate and comfortable to shoot. The AK on the other hand is easier to load, more reliable and lets be honest more fun to shoot.
