Happy 237th Birthday Marines (Nov. 10th)

Tomorrow marks the 237th birthday of our beloved Corps. I wish all my brothers and sisters a joyous and safe birthday. I will raise a pint with you tomorrow just as I have raised my sword with you in the past.

Here at work today we gathered as Marines to celebrate tomorrow's birthday, some retired after 30 years, some left the service after one tour; But Marines every one.

As tradition requires when Marines are together on our birthday, we read MGen John A. Lejeune's birthday message from 1921 and General James Amos' 237th birthday message.

We cut the birthday cake and the eldest Marine passed the first slice to the youngest Marine signifying the passing down of our traditions. Throughout my career I have had the honor of being at both the presenting and the receiving end of this exchange. I have celebrated at huge Marine Corps Balls where entire aircraft hangers were converted into ballrooms complete with a full size replica of Tuns Tavern, the birthplace of the Corps. I have also celebrated our birthday with just one other Marine, sharing an orange pound cake from an MRE while deployed onto the Ross Ice Shelf in Antartica. I have eaten cake dusted in desert sand, and I have eaten cake half frozen from the cold mountain winds. In every clime and place, it always tastes the same. You can taste the sweetness of our many successes, but also the bitter spice for those that have gone before and paid the untimate price. At the end of the day you clink glasses of rum punch with your Marines and carry on to the next mission. That is what we do, we make Marines and we win battles.

Wherever you are tomorrow, gather as Marines and take pride that we wear the title U.S. Marine.
Semper Fi, I love each and every one of you.

This video salute is from Bob Parsons, Marine veteran and Founder of GoDaddy.

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem.

On November 10th 1775 the Continental Congress met at a bar called Tun Tavern in Philadelphia and signed a bill calling for the creation of 2 Battalions of Continental Marines.

Today, 237 years later Marines all over the world celebrate the birthday of the Marine Corps. Later today, I will be at Cookies Bar at 10th and Oregon in Philadelphia having a few cold ones to celebrate the 237th Birthday of the Marine Corps!

To all my fellow Marines, Happy Birthday and Semper Fi!!

Well you know what is said. If you haven't served in the Marine Corp, you still owe your Country a military obligation.
